Building a permanent fire pit in sand
Is this even possible? I live on a lake, and would like to put in a permanent fire pit myself. Any tips would be great.

Re: Building a permanent fire pit in sand
Dig a hole, have the bottom be flat with sand and stack bricks up the sides.

You could use a little concrete if you really want, but those guys are pretty much right. Just a hole and some bricks/rocks should serve you well.

Re: Building a permanent fire pit in sand
why have it permanent?
you'll just have to clean the ash out all the time, just dig a new hole when u want a fire, it is easier in sand after all.

Re: Building a permanent fire pit in sand
How about a can of old house paint. It's basically like the fire at the kennedy memorial. Light the top of it, it'll burn for a long time. I don't think this is what you mean by permanent fire pit though lol.
If you are going with concrete, know that concrete is only strong when atleast 4" in every way. I have made concrete fire pits, also ones with ep henry block, ultra light blocks, bricks, and just concrete and forms. Way light and ultra lights are like $8-14 a block, ephenry even more so expensive. You want something to last, right? Dig 3 foot deep, 16 inch wide footings, and put block on top of those. Lay the block on a smooth 1 inch layer of mortar. For a wheel barrel of proper mortar, its 15 shovels of sand, 1 bag lime, 1 bag concrete. Add water and mix with a hoe. Stack block one layer at a time. Parge all the connecting areas. It could last 80 years (or less with moisture, water, earthquakes, salt, etc.)
