Default Death by opiate overdose

What would be the mechanism of death? Respiratory depression? What would it feel like?

I've read that it's actually quite a terrible, messy experience, not at all like the whole "drifting off in your sleep" idea some people seem to have. I don't really know, though.

Respiratory depression is most commonly the means of death upon an opiate overdose.

Coming from someone who has overdosed more times than I care to count, I can tell you that there is very little to feel. Upon injection of the opiate (my preferred route of administration), the typical rush washes over me except the rush builds and builds. (instead of build and then peak for a few moments and then gradually fall back to a steady high like usual.)

There is a moment where I realize I have done too much. My vision has become blurry, there is a ringing in my ears and an almost indescribable intense fuzzy and warm feeling that makes your whole body seem to vibrate with pins and needles.

After the moment of recognition of the overdose, there isn't much more to say. Your blurry vision turns to tunnel vision and the tunnel closes. That's it.

If it weren't for my wife being there for every OD, and us usually being in downtown Atlanta for every OD, I wouldn't of made it to the hospital to get my Narcan injection. I would of died.

I was in a heroin induced coma for 4 hours at the longest, lying in the hospital bed with a breathing tube down my throat. I don't remember any of that. If I didn't make it to the hospital, I would of passed out from the rush (which is actually very enjoyable, not scary or painful at all) and then died of respiratory depression without ever even knowing it.

As some one has come close twice, one of those being very very close - I can assure you that you wont feel SHIT. How ever, if you do end up surviving, you WILL feel like absolute shit for the next few days.

It's almost always exactly like that.

It could get particularly messy such as choking on your own vomit which is actually a rare happening during an opiate overdose. Even still, should you die by drowning (in your vomit), you're still in a very deep semi-coma from the opiate and any coughing and gagging you're doing is simply involuntary reflexes to expel vomit from your throat.

I'd be willing to bet that even those that died by vomiting, they still didn't feel anything at all because they weren't even aware it was happening.

My wife used to slap the piss out of me, pour cold drinks in my face, at one point, she said she pinched the head of my dick to try and get me to wake up, but it was no use.

Someone posted the correct way to dose Narcan on here a while back. It was a short video on how the Hospitals intentionally give you too much so you go into immediate withdrawl. Just thought I'd add that.

Nope. It's exactly the whole "drifting off to sleep" thing.

Both times i've overdosed i haven't even noticed anything was wrong, i'd just do my shot and think "damn thats good" then wake up on the floor next to a pool of vomit and concerned looking people stood over me.

If i was ever to kill myself, that'd be the way for sure.

I dont think its to intentionally put you into withdrawl, they just use a lot to guarantee you come out of it, seeing as every second counts when it comes to inadequate blood flow to your brain. Although they do enjoy the whole come back from the dead screaming from withdrawals part. I have a friend whos an EMT who says they love those calls and will rock paper scizzors who gets to do the injection.

I have another junky friend who almost ODd at my house. (went entirely unconscious, no breathing, and lips were blue, and wouldnt respond to knuckles on chest, but he came to a few minutes later as I was calling 911. He said it felt like a super good rush, but it didnt stop accelerating upwards and he had a weird sense of panic under the super high, but its too late to do anything besides whisper "help m..."

Hm. Well, if I ever get into an irreversibly terrible situation or get some kind of awful disease, I think I know how I'd kill myself. Seriously, why fuck around with nooses or guns if you can just go sniff a gigantic line of heroin?

This thread is depressing as fuck.

You're gonna have a hard time trying to kill yourself by snorting it, though.

I'll take that challenge.

Instead of cutting myself, I should just do heroin. In 6 months time, I'll decide if I wanna be an addict and join you fuckers.

in 6 months time there would be no deciding you'd be a full blown addict.

I've seen my ex girlfriend revive someone from a bad OD, she took 1/4 a suboxn cooked it up with some water and injected it, he snapped out of it instantly.

If I had spare needles, Ive always wanted to have small premade shots of diazepam and suboxone (all I'd have available) fixed on the side so I can stop a seizure or OD at home.

You'd probably feel nauseated, feverish, and itchy, until you just stop breathing. Benadryl or dramamine could counter some of the negative side effects.

It's not painful at all, it's quite pleasant. I've gotten fairly close, and you kind of just nod out in ecstasy and then you stop breathing. Not painful at all, it's fucking opiates, after all. Definitely the way to go out, quick, pleasant painless death.

The weird thing about opiates for me is I CAN NOT sleep on them. I use them 2-3 times a month, and even in the heaviest dose (60mg Oxy) I couldnt sleep.

I would agree with death being painless though. I mean the whole reason we even see opiates in medicine it to help mitigate pain, so I cant imagine and OD would be painful.

I have this aswell when I just use every once in a while. When I start using too much and develop a mild addiction though, they make me sleep like a fucking baby. Same with kratom. In the beginning it would keep me awake all night, literally. Nowadays I can take 10g if I feel too awake at bedtime and it'll make me sleep for a solid 8 hours... It's strange.

Also, as a sidenote, something even weirder is that before stimulants gave me tons of anxiety I could actually to go sleep while all tweaked out. I could drink a litre of Redbull or snort ritalin all day and then go to bed like nothing had happened. Nowadays I have trouble sleeping even when sober cause of mild anxiety lawl.
