Successful small female and large dog births?

I was curious, has anyone here ever seen a successful birth of puppies which resulted from a small mother being banged by a larger father? My aunt told me that they had a situation which arose like this, but the dog disappeared a little while into the pregnancy and was never seen again, so it most likely died in a ditch.

Our puggle (pug-beagle) was impregnated by our pit bull-bull mastiff mix and possibly a German shepherd a short time before. She had the puppies without any trouble.

It probably depends on genetics. I know that in the cattle business the owners will try to get bulls with a history of low birth-weight calves to ease the birthing process. The same principle could apply here.

A friend of mine has a small yorkshire terrier that stands about 8 inches tall maybe (i believe, i don't know anything about dog breeds), and a very large pit bull. Another friend of mine has one of their strange little puppies.

No problems.

I've heard that human offspring's size usually corresponds to the female's size until birth, regardless of the male's size... sort of like the goldfish growth in a bowl situation. Dogs are probably the same if that's the case.
