Default The true meaning behind "Blurred Lines"

I'm sure you're all familiar with the following song:

There's been a lot of controversy about this song, people assume that the artist is exploiting women in his video in order to make bank regardless of the consequences to society as a whole, he's a sexist egotistical pig. Plain and simple.

But is it? Look at the title itself, "Blurred Lines", Robin Thicke is attempting to draw attention to the blurring of music and pornography, and the gradual decay of decency in everyday life; sexualisation of children, objectification of women, and a culture in which playing people's emotions in order to manipulate them into sex is seen as an acceptable and desirable thing to do.

Robin Thicke's character is purposefully repulsive. The video is made to shock, toeing the lines between what is and isn't allowed, and in doing so forces people to take a stand against it. Thicke realises that if a change occurs gradually nobody takes notice, it's only by forcing us to look at what our media and society will look like in ten years time that he is able to draw attention to the issue. It's so over the top and ridiculous that it could even be called a parody.

The lyrics themselves are about drug use and promiscuity. Robin Thicke's character is attempting to seduce the "good girl" into taking drugs and having sex. Robin Thicke represents the media and our culture as a whole, and the good girl's innocence represents the youth of this generation and how it is being corrupted and degraded by the filth that the media portrays as normal. You don't like him because he doesn't want you to.

Robin Thicke is a martyr for his cause and "Blurred Lines" is the wakeup call he knows we sorely needed.

All I think this has done - both the song & amazing film clip and Miley's VMA performance - is pushed the limit that bit further, like it is constantly being pushed, and instead of people 'taking a stand' all that happens is that is becomes the norm. In 2050 your grandkids will be calling you a pussy because you think the 16yr old masturbating herself with an eggbeater at the VMA is uncouth

If Mr Thicke has such lofty veiled goals I think he is doing a terrible job at achieving them. In the long run he is actually doing the exact opposite of what you claim his intentions are.

I really don't think he gives a damn about any objectification of women, not in the sense that he advocates it, I just don't think he thinks that what he is producing is doing any harm. It's entertainment, it's making him a star. He's a pop music producer/entertainer, this is what he does. The guy is 36, what evidence is there in his history and past actions to substantiate your claims about these beliefs?

To me its just a guy cashing in and having fun.

EDIT

Your analysis is well thought out though consider these words from the Thickester himself...

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ear...es-rape-583092

"But he did talk about the meaning of the lyrics, saying they're about both "blurring the lines between men and women and how much we're the same" and "blurred lines between a good girl and a bad girl."

"Even very good girls have a little bad side. You just have to know how to pull it out of them," he added.
He also said that the video of him dancing around with naked girls, which should only be controversial to "extra-religious people," was director Diane Martel's idea. He also wanted to shoot a clothed version, saying "I don't want it to be sleazy. I've always been a gentleman. I've been with the same woman since I was a teenager. So I don't want to do anything that's inappropriate."
Thicke actually preferred the clothed version and didn't even want to use the naked version until his wife and her friends said he should put out that video, too."

yo and why the fuck did you not post the uncut film clip in the OP. Blasphemy.

He's saying when a girl is good she has moral boundaries. When a guy comes into her life that lives outside of the moral boundaries she's set but she really likes him the boundaries or lines become blurred and she's more permissive to things she's never done before

There's no meaning to the song.

Just some wigger with a derp eye squealing about nonsense and sounding like Prince with circus music in the background.
