Us shoplifters may be fucked.
http://www.techdo.com/your-worst-nightmare-rfid-powder/
Anyone seen this? If this is real we may have a problem. These tags say they are DIGESTIBLE so they could be EVERYWHERE.
At least these look like they may be relatively expensive, but still....

They sale tiny, hand held devices to detect RFID chips. Their pretty reasonable as far as price goes.

Re: Us shoplifters may be fucked.
The solution is pretty simple for small items: just use a magic bag. I'd be really pissed off though if they start putting those tags in my food... I'd probably start growing my own.

If they were put into food I think enough people would stand up against it though. Or at least I would like to think so.

oh man! If they started using these, it would be cool to buy a bunch online, and stick them to all the shopping carts in the paking lot

I have looked for this kind of thing before. Just to clarify, it only DETECTS the RFID and not disables it?
I have searched retail security type of sites but I only have found the pads that they slide the item over to deactivate RFIDs (and they need to be plugged in) or used battery powered wands that cost $600+ USD

Do that, wait in the store for 20 minutes, put a large box (like a computer) in your cart and leave like you paid for it.

I'm pretty sure the FDA would have a problem with putting these in food. I'm sure medical uses require a consenting patient.

They do have "pocket" models. If you're a profession shoplifter their worth it. I'll just stay with my magic bag.

Not adaptable enough yet, people would go eat or do something and end up setting off alarms everywhere. It would make lifting easier if manipulated correctly.

I figured they must be out there somewhere. Do you know a brand name or anything to search for?

Re: Us shoplifters may be fucked.
This is nothing. The biggest current EAS-related threat to shoplifters is source tagging.

As far as threats go source tagging is definitely a bigger concern...

Re: Us shoplifters may be fucked.
The whole point of ingesting the powder was for medical purposes, voluntarily. Like the way they can inject radioactive dye into a patient and use it to locate problems in their system.
