That reminds me of me when I was 18. Actually, that reminds me of everybody when they are 18. You should consider the following: there is nothing wrong with having artsy interests, but very, very often an Arts degree translates to little more than a dull office job or worse, something you don't need a degree at all for. You should study engineering, make a shitload of cash, and spend your free time reading and writing. The world needs more engineers, not failed authors (it's statistically probably true, no offence) and graduate students sucking dick and competing viciously with their peers for miserly postdoc positions.

I know that sounds lame but I really wish someone told me that (forcefully) when I was starting out in postsecondary.

Assuming you're good at taking pictures. Which honestly isn't considered that great a feat these days. Any 12 year old with a cool camera can take amazing pictures. Not trying to belittle you, but it's the truth.

I'd go with graphic design to be honest. Learn some web design too. Big bucks in that, even freelance.

I'm 19, have about 5K in the bank, live with the madre, and make 9.00/ hour which is an upgrade from my previous job. '08 car is paid off. I'm in the process of deciding whether to continue college or to forget about it and try to advance with my current employer. I'm pretty smart (ranked 3/210 of my senior class) but I have many faults too that I'm working on.. I'd say I'm a 6/10 so far, and I will add that I have the potential and the hunger to be better.

19 now, a year into an electrical engineering degree. College is insane, but overall pretty awesome. Stressful at times, but most of that is me procrastinating.

I'm doing physics research as an undergrad, which is great for my resume but also fascinating. I'm hoping to get published sometime this fall, maybe early January next year at the latest.

I'm doing Textbroker mostly for money these days with a little engineering consulting on the side. Would like to do more of that, obviously.

Savings and investments are up to around $14,000 or so, which is good considering how expensive school is. My goal is to graduate with $30,000 minimum, we'll see how that goes. Business/investment ideas can accelerate or stall that.

Overall, I guess I'm in a better place this year than I was last year, which is always the goal.

Apparently this is the only job im qualified, none of my 50+ applications for full time work in the field had any luck. Had decent grades, too (3.5 over final 2 years in a business school, 3 unpaid internships during my time there, and a part time job for 3 years in my field). Living at home with my parents. gotta drive 1.5 hours to work each way for a 4 hour shift.

Haha, it was like that for me for a while. I cook for a living. It's kinda the chef's dream to start his own resturaunt. So, I worked for 4 different places and helped them open up/start (as a line cook at the time, I wasn't responsible for the menu) And all of them closed down. I'm now re-doing the menu for a place that's been in business over 60 years in the Historic District of the oldest city in America. Might just be time for you to move. Keep your head up. It'll get better. My advice to you is to find a cheap/free hobby to keep your mind occupied. And, put as much effort into finding a job as you would if you had one. Any time I've gone out looking for a job, I've put in 8 hour days. Never took more than 3 days. Nobody wants to scrub toilets, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Best of luck to you.

I'm confused as to how this works. Given I don't know much about deportation laws, but how can they send you back somewhere you aren't even from?
