Well, I'm not listening to anything right now, but the top 5 songs of the last week or so have been:
Aphex Twin, no particular song (they're all vaguely similar, anyhow...)
Buckethead - Soothsayer
Buckethead - Nottingham Lance
Dragonforce - Through the Fire and the Flames
Dragonforce - Operation Ground and Pound

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
God, what an amazing album. If only radio top 40 still sounded like this today.

Just to clarify, nobody here will get mad if you bump up an old post with a response. In fact, I invite you to dig through the archives of any given forum, particularly the in ItCrawledUpMy.com forum and the Pile. The threads may be old and may have a bunch of other threads piled on top, but I assure you, all non-closed threads are still open discussions. That's especially true in the It Crawled Up My Dot Com forum, if I may promote my main posting area.
And if that doesn't work for you, start a thread you do like. At least a handful of people check the boards daily (myself included) even if we aren't constantly flooding all the forums with new topics, and we'd be more than up for an engaging conversation/discussion if you've got one you want to start.
And for the record, Satriani is cool, and I enjoy his music on some levels, but I actually agree with Water on this one - his playing lacks that climactic *punch* that I like my guitar playing to have. I mean, his playing amounts to a lot of guitar "foreplay" (if I may be allowed a pun) without any actual pay-off. But that's my opinion, and I've been listening to a lot of Dragonforce lately; draw your own conclusions.

Gotta have some Queen every now and then. Interpret that as you will, but I mean Dairy.

I've been on a big Video Game music kick recently. There are some really fantastic groups that do renditions of old 8-bit games, like The Advantage, The OneUps, MegaDriver, The Minibosses... etc.
I've also been listening a lot to Nobuo Uematsu's orchestrated versions of old Final Fantasy Games (especially 1, 4, and 6). He's done almost all the music for every Final Fantasy game, so he knows exactly what he's doing. Also, he's put together a group called the Black Mages who do hard rock/metal renditions of various Final Fantasy songs. Those are pretty cool as well.
As a result, I've been playing through FF5 again on a GBA emulator. Pretty slick game. Although FF3 was the first one to incorporate the job system, 3 was a pretty crappy game (I mean really, who wants to start out as an "Onion Knight?") and 5 was the first one to do it well (and it wasn't really done again until Tactics).

J.S. Bach - Badinerie on Flute. I love this piece, so I was pleased to find it installed as a ring-tone on my cellphone.

Uematsu is probably one of the most underrated modern orchestral composers, because of his association with video games. He would have made his way to Carnegie Hall under his own steam if he had never chosen midi composition as his primary musical outlet.

I'm mad into Muse at the moment. I only just discovered their existence this week (Yes, I've been living under a rock), and I'm shocked at how they eluded me for so long. HOW?!

Belle and Sebastian - Dress up in You. It's a shame they're so unknown, and if only it's because they're so camera-shy.
