I'm reading an absolutely delightful series, His Dark Materials. Beautiful work by Pullman, I'm sure many of you have heard of it or read it. Very interesting viewpoint, presentation, characters, everything. A very very good series.

And I'm reading Wikipedia, and I come across "it has been adapted to an academy award winning film". Wow, that's impressive, what is it?

THE GOLDEN FUCKING COMPASS!!!

That's right, this pile of crap is what Pullman is known for among the dumbasses of the word who can't pick up a book and need everything in a moving visual form. I can't believe it, it's bad enough most people disregard Milton's Paradise Lost, but to actually make a movie this shitty based on what is undeniably one of the better philosophical series of our age is ridiculous!

That's all I have to say about that!

Great series. Especially the version with all three books in one, with the extra excerpts by the author. Basically, they are short lines that could fit anywhere in the book, that explain things a little further I suppose.

I actually need to pick up Paradise Lost sometime in the future. Most people don't know about the Divine Comedy either, and I read the trilogy when I was 12. my high school english teacher apparently barely touched on it when she was in college which deeply angered me at how far our educational system is worried about no one being offended about anything, fuck you if you can't handle it. if your child reading about a guy walking through Hell and all its horrifying imagery will make them appreciate grand literature then they're going to read it.
