Default Teeth

How important are straight teeth in a relationship? I'm not talking bad teeth as in rotting, dirty, missing, overall bad hygeine, but actually crooked teeth?

Would it make or break it if they opened up their mouth and it was jumbled about?

I personally had braces when I was younger, so my teeth are really straight, but my boyfriend's bottom teeth are crooked. I think it's cute and gives his face personality.

Thoughts?

An attractive smile is a wonderful asset. It contributes to self-esteem, self-confidence and self-image—important qualities at every age. A pleasing appearance is a vital component of self-confidence. A person's self-esteem often improves as orthodontic treatment brings teeth, lips and face into proportion. In this way, orthodontic treatment can benefit social and career success, as well as improve a person’s general attitude toward life.

You may be surprised to learn that straight teeth are less prone to decay and injury. Decay results when the bacteria in plaque (a colorless, sticky film composed of bacteria, food and saliva) feed on carbohydrates (sugar and starch) we eat or drink to produce acids that can cause cavities. Plaque can also increase the risk for periodontal (gum) disease. As for injuries to teeth, protruding upper teeth are more likely to be broken in an accident. When repositioned and aligned with other teeth, these teeth are most probably going to be at a decreased risk for fracture.

Untreated orthodontic problems may become worse. They may lead to tooth decay, gum disease (see photo below), destruction of the bone that holds teeth in place, and chewing and digestive difficulties. Orthodontic problems can cause abnormal wear of tooth surfaces (see photo below), inefficient chewing function, excessive stress on gum tissue and the bone that supports the teeth, or misalignment of the jaw joints (see photo above), sometimes leading to chronic headaches or pain in the face or neck. Treatment by an orthodontist to correct a problem early may be less costly than the restorative dental care required to treat more serious problems that can develop in later years..
Although, guess you could say since it was the American Association of Orthodontists its all evil American propaganda

Teeth aren't an issue to most. Unless they are American.

As long as they aren't jutting out all over the gaff, I couldn't really give a shit. I like to see a pretty, even face, 'tis true but some crookedness is no problem to me whatsoever.

I had braces as a teenager, so I admit I do tend to notice people's teeth more so than what other people might, but I don't place a huge emphasis on it. I mean sure It's nice to have straight teeth, but sometimes a persons crooked teeth is a part of their character, and changing that just wouldn't be worth it in the long run.

I had braces as a teenager, but do not knock people who didnt. I had 4 teeth pulled when I was 12...they are in the back and I told my ortho I wanted my braces out before the hole on one of them closed so I have a gap in the very back..

I dont mind it..and can come in handy sometimes. Guys or girls with uneven teeth dont bother me, as long as they are not going every which way possible and arent as dark as coal..

not everyone can afford braces, and not everyone needs them just for a few weird spaced teeth.

Most Canadians I meet here are very intelligent, exquisitely educated, and well informed people. Not only that but due to Quebec even the most Anglo of the them has contact with a culture that has been around a bit longer than last Tuesday week.

I don't hate Americans either, I just expect them to question some of their assumptions about the world (yeah that's that place beyond your borders, guys).

Depends how mangled they are. If there's a gap between her two middle teeth she's going to have to have one hell of a personality/body/face.

Unless they're rotting, horrendously discoloured or there's a bunch missing, I don't really care. I had braces two different times and my teeth still aren't perfect, so who am I to judge?

I hate when there's a big gap between the 2 front teeth though. I had it when I was younger and when I see pictures it's awful.

Edit: ^^^ Her teeth aren't cute.

Some people kinda have a yellow tint no matter what due to smoking or coffee or both..I clean mine all the time, and they are not yellow but not perfectly white neither. And I smoke and drink tons of coffee..

Unless you get your teeth whitened and dont do the above it is hard to have white white teeth..But there is a diff between staining and just not taking care of them..and the latter is gross.

It totally is. They make it sound like if you have crooked teeth, you wouldn't be able to chew your food and you'll fucking die or something. Of course they'd say that. Braces costs thousands upon thousands of dollars. It's a black hole for your savings. I know a few people that had braces for years. They came out of it with straight teeth-only to have them begin to get crooked a few years down the road. Fuck that. It's not even a permanent fix.

I never smoked. I never drank coffee, yet my teeth have this yellow hue - I've never even had a single hole. My teeth are strong as rock, but they look like shit.

That's weird. Maybe it's in what you eat or how you brush. I brush once a day, two if I'm feeling really up to it. And mine have stayed fairly whitish.

Strange. Well, if you've got cash flowing out of your ass, you can always get them laser whitened. Or, if you're poor like the rest of us-white strips or baking soda seem to work well. OR-if you live in the UK, don't worry about it.

I have perfect teeth, and I have never once had braces. I brush my teeth regularly, and occasionally(once a month or so) floss. Hell, I don't even really use toothpaste most of the time, and I still get complimented by my dentists.

Crooked teeth would not be a deterrent if I liked the girl, I could see past it, and have in the past. Needless to say, she wasn't ripped out of the Big Book of British Smiles**, she was normal. I do however, expect proper hygienic routine. Nothing spiffy, just brush, etc.

There is not doubt that crooked teeth are a negative in terms of mating, it screams "BAD HEALTH DO NOT BREED WITH".

If i saw a random girl who had bad teeth i would probably decline to pursue her. There is just something about kissing her that will always turn me off. not to mention head

But say if i already knew the girl as a friend and become closer too her later on. It would not bother me.

I had a few crooked teeth, so I used braces for more than a year. Then I had to use a retainer for another year, but it was so uncomfortable it made me gag all the time and I couldn't sleep or talk with it, so I used it for only about two months. Then I think I hit puberty or something because I suddenly grew up, and my teeth became kinda crooked again.

I brush them usually twice a day, use mouthwash like a motherfucker and all, and it's never been a big issue with women or anybody else, for that matter.
