Question Nutrition and Chinese Food

Hey, just registered here and I gotta say, it's good to see a lot of people from &T congregating in a new place.

I work at a Chinese restaurant, and a perk of the job is I get a free meal any time I work. I am making an effort to be more health concious and have quit smoking and cut back on drinking as well as started a exercise plan.

My question is basically what can I be eating at work that won't contribute to my fat-assery or at least do so minimally. Everything already has MSG in it pretty much and is cooked in vegetable oil. I am a broke ass college student so it would be criminal for me to turn away free meals. Any input is appreciated.

If you're working at a proper Chinese restaurant run by actual Chinese people, go with a hotpot type of dish. Meat, a variety of vegetables and mushrooms, unique herbs and flavourings. Delicious, really wholesome food. I always feel so good after eating it. Spoon it over a few bowls of rice and it'll probably last you 2 meals.

Keep in mind that while you're getting plenty of veggies and some great chow all around, it's usually REALLY high in sodium. Be sure that you're drinking plenty of water to go along with it, and whatever other ways people generally offset salt intake.

i like the veggie dishes with fillet of fish, and sweet and sour fried fish.

it depends on what kind of chinese place you work at and what they have on their menu really.. if you're a guy who wants to look big, eat lots of meat and exercise, it can't all be dog..

Since you're a college kid I assume you don't eat 3 square meals a day, you most likely eat one decent sized meal. I'd just eat up if I were you, sodium and MSG won't kill you in moderation, especially if you started working out, you need those salts.

If you're going to be a lady about things stick to the seafood, veggies and rice.
