The biggest problem with fake money is the risk of it getting detected and you being detained, so I would think that your two best options would be to either

A. buy from drug dealers
or
B. buy shit off craigslist

Of course option B has a much lower chance of you getting shot, so I'm thinking it is the way to go. Someone I know used to counterfeit and still has all the equipment to make some pretty decent looking bills, he used to get kids to buy food from the cafeteria with the fake 20s back in high school. He would let the kids keep the free meal and keep a couple of dollars from the change, but he decided to quit while he was ahead. So I'm wondering, if SWIM were to start again, would craigslist be a good way to make a profit off of counterfeiting?

The only deals I've done through craigslist in the past have been when I was selling iPods or calculators, and most of the time the transaction would go very quickly. We would meet in a parking lot, they would come up to my car, and then they would look at the ipod and then hand me the cash and we would say our goodbyes as I was pulling away.

So if SWIM were to find people selling computers or ipods or any electronics in the $100-$500 price range that could easily be resold, what could go wrong? SWIM is almost sure that most randoms wouldn't realize they were fakes at first glance. SWIM would give them a couple of real bills in the mix just to make it seem more legit.

If SWIM brought a bottle of Mace, I think this would be a pretty foolproof way of getting a fast buck with a low level of risk.

Do you see anything wrong with this game plan? Feedback? Suggestions?

Don't give out your address or any personal info to someone who you are buying things from with fake money. Could work if you do something like the parking lot thing and there was no way that they could find out your identity. If you're in the US, a gun would be better than mace, depending on what you're doing and who you're buying from.

Of course something COULD go wrong, but it's likely fairly foolproof if you take enough precautions. Do the bills look reasonable if given a relatively long glance? Remember that someone in this situation has considerably more time to examine/count the money than a cafeteria worker in a busy setting.

Yeah, they come off as very legit, as far as counterfeit bills go. SWIM has used them in stores a couple of times before. They have the right texture and coloring, unless you're trained in identifying counterfeits, you would really need to hold it up under a light to be able to know for sure that they're fakes.

I can pretty much guarantee that the Average Joe wouldn't look over any bills to find counterfeits. How many times were you handed money from a transaction and examined it for counterfeits, no one really bothers until it's too late.

The most anyone would do is hold the bill up to a light to see the watermark. If you can pull off watermarks then you're safe. If not, try printing the "older" style bills.

Use them in restaurants and get change. Most restaurants only check their $100 bills. It's nearly impossible to check all the money that goes through the servers, bar, etc.

when buying things people just count the cash to see if it's the right amount, that seems to be the only thing on their minds.

so buy stuff you can easily sell for real cash.

Personally, no matter how easy a crime seems, If the punishment outweights the payoff then I dont do it. Getting caught with counterfeits is a federal crime, getting caught with a little setup you made them off, your looking at some prison time.

A smarter alternative would be to have them wait at the pre determined spot and mug them.

Make sure you don't leave any fingerprints on the bills because if you are ever caught for something else and they put the two and two together, you are really fucked. Don't give out any personal info, including phone numbers. Just contact them from a payphone if you have to. Remember counterfeit money is a serious crime.

problem with this is counterfiting is a fed crime. make damned sure those posts are going out from a public network you can't be connected to, and that you never connect to an email addy from any IP that could be traced back to you.
Even then I'd make it a fast run and gone, a month or two then walk away.
Careful moving the shit as well, if ANYONE tumbles to the fact the moneys not real your in a whole world of shit if you try to take the equipment into a pawn shop or something.
