Reccomend me some war novels
I'd like some recs for books that deal primarily with the combat aspect of war (Any war is fine). Fiction or non-fiction. Thanks for any recommendations.

Re: Reccomend me some war novels
All Quiet on the Western Front - Erich Remarque
It deals primarily with the mental aspect, both at the front and in non-combat zones, but there's a good deal of combat-related and sometimes mildly-gorey text included.

Yes yes yes yes yes. Catch-22 is really the best book I've ever read. An absolute necessity if you like to read (or even if you don't really).

Re: Reccomend me some war novels
You should be able to find a wide variety of them at a used book store, but here's a few ideas:
Johnny Tremain
A Farewell To Arms
From Here to Eternity
The Naked and Dead
Iron Coffins
The Wars
Execution
Red Alert
The Naked Soldier

O-Jerusalem by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins. This is easily one of my favorite books and after reading it you will understand the Israeli situation MUCH better. It is non fiction (obviously) but it is told in a very personal and engaging way.
All of you, read it

Re: Reccomend me some war novels
Got Catch 22 and All Quiet on the Western Front from the library. They didn't have alot of the books unfortunately but I didn't check all of them yet. It turns out The Things they Carried is also a summer reading book which meant all the copies were gone, but at least they have it. Thanks for all the recs so far.

Re: Reccomend me some war novels
John Ringo.
He's probably the best military science fiction writer of the current generation.
His ghost series is more straight spec ops military oriented.
Kind of the same vein as the rogue warrior series, but better.
david drake's hammers slammers is great combat military science fiction as well.
Hell most of the Baen authors at this point have seen the elephant.

Re: Reccomend me some war novels
Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers. It's about a black guy in Vietnam. Alot of it is about his bonds with the guys in his regiment, alot is about actual combat. Overall I give a 9/10, one of my favorite books ever.

This isn't it (pfft), and I even logged ino my sock acct to look for that thread that had recommendations on military sf. I'm pming the dude I remember made it. These dudes may be fucking douchebags worthy of child porn plastered on their boards but that thread is pretty cool. even if spacebattles is better.
EDIT: this isn't the thread I meant but it's something :/
https://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewto...it=+MKsheppard
EDIT 2: Oh, as to my suggestion(s). Star Wars examples-The Rogue Squadron Novels by Allston and Stackpole. Thrawn Trilogy and Duology doesn't have too much focus on the war aspects, but there are some nice infodumps. The Dark Empire graphic novels are better in some ways of the strategy.
non-star wars:
Oh, there was some BAEN book on the outer planets of this system rebelling. I forgot.
Oh, the interesting ness of The Turner Diaries
EDIT 3: Warhammer 40K novels are chock-full of this shit...
