Train it as a guard dog first to ge tit in the right mind frame.

What makes it use it and lures it onto it?
Meat. Although I don't gree with using meat because it contradicts some advice I'm going to give you later on. I had a friend who was on a farm who would always have dead rabbits and other vermin, I would hang these on the hook instead of meat.
The ideal apparatus will have a hook to hang the bait onto.
If you want to make it faster then train it using live bait such as rabbits. This can link in with teaching it the "kill" command.
While pitbulls are ideal for their strength and primarily used in dog fighting, they are stubborn as fuck, take it from someone who used to have one. German Shepherds will listen to you and they're known to go to lengths to "protect" their owners.
My advice is to start training with a puppy, yeah you can train a dog to be stronger but you can't teach them new tricks and you'll have a much harder time making them obey you if they've not been used to such treatment in the past.
Teach them the basic commands first obviously, no running before they can walk.
"sit, stay, drop, down" etc.
They must know who the boss is otherwise they will run wild around you. Give them a command such as "sit", or "down" if they're jumping around while you get their food. If they don't obey the command then don't give them their food. Try again after about half an hour later.
Obviously you eat before the dog. To show that the alpha eats first put some human feed in the bowl and eat that first before to show the boss eats first. The bowl should be an thetable when you do this, at no time should you ever be below the dog's eyes, they'll think they're above you if you do so. Never let your dog eat human food, never give it scraps,
Show love for your dog, tough love. When it is in the room do not show it any attention, ignore it. It needs to realise it is not the centre of attention and that you are the boss and it is below you. You do not revolve around it.
Now to train it to resist food (thieves use drugged meat to distract dogs on burglaries). Put down a nice big juicy steak on the ground, when it goes to eat it hit them firm under the nose. Repeat the process until it learns.
Punish them when they do something bad. Get them on their back and look into their eyes and tell them "no!" in a stern voice. They only understand basic words and commands.

and if you tried to play fetch with a tennis ball he would rip that up too. Was only about half a meter tall. He was a really friendly dog though, just strong as fuck.
