Smile Installing linux from empty hard disk

How do I install linux from an empty hard drive? I tried following this tutorial, but it's saying windows can't read the hard disk (I followed the tutorial, but used drive G, another hard drive instead of C). So I'm wondering, (since I don't have a burner ATM) how I can install linux from this hard drive? Preferably just put some files in to boot from so I can boot directly form the hard drive (tried doing this, but I got an error that the NTLDR file was missing). So, what can I do?

You could boot from a USB drive

http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

creates a bootable USB from an ISO file

I'd prefer to learn how to do this with an empty hard disk. I know that drives all behave pretty much the same, so it's not like I won't be able to install straight from a hard disk but be able to do so with a USB drive.

I ended up getting the debian installer from http://goodbye-microsoft.com and installing it; so right now, I've got debian although I really wanted fedora 11 with KDE . Oh well though, no biggie .
