The Official Iowa Hawkeyes 2009 football season thread

We are looking really goddam good. We finished in the top 20 last season. Rick Stanzi emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the league. He has a great nfl build at 6 feet 4 inches. Our incredibly dominant offensive line led by junior Bryan Bulaga who is a projected top 10 draft pick is largely still intact. We did however lose our center so we may have issues there.

Last season Jewel Hampton had a solid year as a true freshman rushing behind the top back in the ncaa. However he is not the guaranteed starter with Brinson also an extremely talented back.

Our secondary is extremely good. Unfortunately we lost some our depth with a couple of transfers during the offseason. Our D line is a question mark.

Look for our receiving corps to be greatly improved.

We have a tough schedule with Michigan state, Penn state, and Ohio state as away games, but barring some miraculous disaster we will win 2 of those games, and we have a shot at all 3 which would almost guarantee a big 10 title and rose bowl or bcs bid. Look for Iowa to be a top 10 team by the end of the season.

Shonn Greene was an amazing back, but the fact that we had probably the best o line in college football was instrumental to his success. those dudes were opening holes bigger than your moms vagina on every play. and it's pretty much the same o line.

well we've beat penn state something like 5 out of the last 6 times we've played them so I don't think it's very accurate to say we'll most likely lose. we're definitely underdogs against ohio state, but we have a good team this year and it would be far from shocking for us to pull out the win.

as far as the overrated big 12 and the little girl football that they play with their spread offenses Iowa would mop the floor with all those shitty teams with the exception of possibly texas and oklahoma.

I don't think so. It would certainly be somewhat of a miracle for any of the shitty b12 north teams to beat iowa.

as far as the south yeah just oklahoma and texas. maybe tech last year, but without their qb and wide receiver I don't see them being good this year. i guess okstate is usually pretty solid. they might give us a run for our money. I don't really understand your thinking on this subject?

like i said we've beat psu 5 out of 6. the b12 is the most overrated conference in college football, and our current coach has b10 championships under his belt from 2002 and 2004. in 2004 we destroyed osu at their stadium.

I have to agree with you although only because florida is so ridiculously good. Iowa is a much better than Georgia right now though. We would dominate you. I really wished we had played in the bowl. it almost happened. SC wasn't a good enough opponent for us and msu showed themselves to suck ass against you guys.

Alright. Season kicks off saturday against northern iowa. no offense to northern iowa they're a great fcs team or whatever they're calling it now, but it should be an easy win.

Jewel Hampton the expected starter will miss this entire season. I expect to see walk on paki o meara take most of the snaps the first week as he's the only one with any game experience. after that i'm looking for jeff brinson to emerge as the starter.

can't believe hampton injured his knee that badly in camp. god dammit. luckily we play two easy ass teams the first two games because a significant amount of our team is dinged up or set to be suspended for the first two games due to the nazi police in iowa city handing out paulas and public intox's for fun.

the only thing that makes me feel better is that ohio state, illinois, and minnesota all looked equally horrible.

also two of our starting o line were out and our two starting running backs. our o line was paaathetic today. especially considering how dominant they were last year and they fact that we return almost all of them.

Iowa dominated in state rivals Iowa State today. Yes Iowa State is horrible, but it was still a good outing. Iowa dominated on defense with 5 interceptions and a forced fumble. we showcased our true freshman running back who rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown despite not playing most of the game.

Iowa moves to 3-0 with a win over the pac10 arizona wildcats. the final score was 27-17. our defense did a phenomenal job shutting down their offense. their only offensive touchdown came in garbage time, and we held them to a fieldgoal on a 1st and goal from the one yard line.

our qb play left something to be desired so hopefully we can get things in shape before we go up against top 10 penn state last week.

new rankings out today. iowa is lucky number #13. look for us to run the tables and play for the national championship.

we have some tough road games ahead at Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State. We should win the first two easily and I do not believe Ohio State is as good as Penn State so we certainly have the tools to knock them off.

At home we play a gimmicky ass michigan team that has no defense and plays little girl big12 style offense. that should be no problem.

we just have to focus on the week ahead and not get upset by some cupcake like northwestern and we're big ten champions competing for the national championship. i pray to god that boise state loses a game because if we have to play them in a bowl or if they get to the championship ahead of us it will be the most dissapointing end to an amazing season ever.

after an abysmal first half that consisted of iowa running up the middle with their freshman running backs for negative yards every fucking down we came back and just dominated in the second half. we shut down clay, picked apart the wisconsin secondary and got 3 interceptions our of tolzien.

7-0. Iowa is now the only undefeated team in the big 10 and should win a big 10 championship no problem. ohio state lost which cements our big 10 championship shot, but it hurts our national championship hopes.

texas won a bs game against oklahoma by taking bradford out of the game also hurting our national championship shots. of course if they go undefeated they will have played an easier schedule than us and don't deserve a shot at the championship, but they will get it anyway i'm sure.

this is looking like a huuuuge weekend for iowa. especially with the bcs rankings coming out on monday.

here is how the teams ranked ahead of iowa did.

boise state - barely won against a horrible opponent.

texas - barely won against a mediocre 2 loss oklahoma team that didn't have sam bradford. colt mccoy played like shit.

florida - miraculous last minute victory against an unranked team. had to rely on errors by arkansas as well as on heavily biased referees

ohio state - lost to an awful awful purdue team

usc - barely beat an overhyped notre dame. had to stop notre dame on the usc five yard line at the end of the game to win.

virginia tech - not looking so hot. could very easily get upset by georgia tech

and alabama has a tough game against south carolina still to be played.

i expect iowa to jump boise state, possibly usc, and definitely ohio state and virginia tech if they are in fact upset, and the groundwork will be layed to jump a shitty looking texas team based on strength of schedule and overall performance.

iowa moves in at number 7 in the ap poll. it's complete bullshit that boise state is still ahead of us and also complete bullshit that usc is still ranked number 4 after that embarassing loss to a very mediocre washington team and a very near loss to a shitty notre dame team.

name recognition plays waaaay too much of a part in the rankings.

i assume that we'll be higher on the bcs rankings that will be released tomorrow. probably 5th or 6th.

the official bcs rankings haven't been released but it looks like iowa will be 6th. technically we're tied with cincy for fifth and since cincy doesn't play anyone and neither does boise state we should be moving up to 4th no problem if we keep winning.
