The whole cash for clunkers program is useless to the average car buyer unless you are trading in a vehicle that gets horrible gas mileage towards something that gets very good gas mileage, most people are better off just selling their cars

Fucking +1 for that guy. I was going to do this shit too, but fuck, I'm not going to risk any information at all. The shit I have on my computer is CC info, Social Security, personal business, offshore accounts. I would love to work for DoT right now, maybe I'll get a lowlife job there. It probably is the safest way to scam i the world. Also, was this video recent, or is it from a long time ago. I could just imagine a shitload of people raging in front of the White House because of this. People are going to be fucking pissed off.

And that BS that Beck is spouting is just more of his lies. You people need to get real. Sad that in this instance, thinking for oneself is lacking big time.

Get your facts straight before you start. Of course mechanics would be against a whole lot of cars being sold since they get to fuck over women and the un-mechanical everyday by gouging and selling un-neccesary parts by working on clunkers.

sheesh

Ok, you have no proof that the people using the C for C program are only driving clunkers. the clunker could be their second - or first auto- or even third. And being able to buy is decided usually by a person's credit rating.

The problem that you made up out of thin air needs to be validated actually.

About as solid as Beck's non-factual rant about clicking on continue means the feds now own that laptop. Bwahahaha Yea that could happen.

Yes a lot of people in mine line of work are crooks but most of us don't fuck people over just because we can.Thats why I get so pissed off when someone says all mechanics are crooks.

Fail because it's encouraging more consumer debt, more government debt. The program distorts the free-market, which- in the end, is only going to promote more inefficiencies in the economy than there otherwise would have been.

Also, I imagine that most people participating in the program, have little real incentive to do so, other than mindless consumerism. We're at a point in time when most cars on the road are fairly reliable. It simply doesn't make sense, because these people aren't trading in their cars because they're unreliable... they're trading in their cars because they want a new car.

The efficiency argument makes no sense either. How are the newest cars any more efficient than they have been in the last few years, give or take a couple of miles per gallon? People with inefficient cars (fuel economy wise), probably have a reason for it. An SUV for a family, a truck for the tradesman, etc.

The program is bullshit, through and through. I fail to see how the issues above are solved any more efficiently than if the program hadn't taken place.

Finally, the argument / incentive having to do with benefit to the car companies is asinine as well. It's not the fee-market, it's socialism- government should have nothing to do with ideas like these. It's the own car companies problems- their workers, w/e. I can sympathize but they aren't any more special than anyone else who has their job in danger b/c of this economic downturn. Really, in the end, it's nothing more than pandering and politics, politicians worried about being reelected.

If they want your computer, sure they have it. But if the computer indicates something criminal that can be prosecuted in a court of law, the government does need to have accessed it legally- understand?

A good way to do this is simply asking for permission which happens often when government / police investigate any kind of activity. With your permission / waiver of rights they are free and clear.

President Bush revised that policy and put it into practice. Did you complain about it then or did you parrot the RW talking point that if you have nothing to hide then you should not complain at all because if so then it is no big deal?

Travelers' Laptops May Be Detained At Border
No Suspicion Required Under DHS Policies

By Ellen Nakashima
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, August 1, 2008; Page A01

Federal agents may take a traveler's laptop or other electronic device to an off-site location for an unspecified period of time without any suspicion of wrongdoing, as part of border search policies the Department of Homeland Security recently disclosed.

Also, officials may share copies of the laptop's contents with other agencies and private entities for language translation, data decryption or other reasons, according to the policies, dated July 16 and issued by two DHS agencies, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In April, the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco upheld the government's power to conduct searches of an international traveler's laptop without suspicion of wrongdoing. The Customs policy can be viewed at: http://www.cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/...admissability/
