Default Tips for boiling steak

yeah so the doctor said i need to watch my bad carbs and trans fats and all that. today i bought a t-bone steak, about 14 oz, and decided to boil it instead of grilling/frying it to make it healthier.

i used about 3 cups of water in a medium sized pot, medium high heat, and boiled it for about 25 minutes while i showered my body. it actually kind of fell apart so i had to take it out and let it cool, put it back together, wrapped tight, and put it in the freezer for about an hour. then i just took it out and microwaved it until warm.

not too bad with some maple syrup, but i feel like this process could be perfected better. ideas?

boiling meat hardly makes it any healthier. it just has slightly less fat than it does due to the lack of oil required to fry or broil it.

however, if youre going to cook it in a liquid, try stewing the meat. you will still have to sear it on the outside, but a nice beef that has been stewed slowly will still turn out great.

I agree with Mantikore...stewing it would be preferable, but why use a porterhouse to stew? No reason to buy that nice of a cut if you're stewing. Your tough, chewy, economy cut would actually be far more sane to use. Round steak has always been my stew meat of choice, but any of those cheap cuts would work great.

It sure as hell beats spending a bunch of money and boiling a porterhouse.

Just so we're clear here...

Not everyone is a culinary master. We're not all Gordon Ramsey or Jamie Oliver. The free exchange of knowledge and ideas is why we have the forum. If all of us had several Michelin Stars, it'd make for some pretty boring conversation. What made Oral Indulgences back on Totse and what now makes G&G such a rich forum is the fact that all skill levels come in and have great conversations, learning from each other and all of us improving our skills.

So, in short, saying he should've been aborted because he tried a cooking method (which is, admittedly, not the way I would've done things) that you don't like is completely unnecessary. You won't learn unless you make mistakes, and that doesn't make a person less noble for the effort.

Well, yes, but Ramsay does have 12 Michelin Stars. That might not count for much around here on Zoklet, but evidently more than a few people think he's quite talented.

Using braising steak for casseroles and stews yields bloody decent results at a very good price. Taking tender meat however and boiling it is jjust not cricket. Not Just because it is a waste of good meat, it is also a waste of your (or your parents) hard earned cash.

I just had dinner, onions carrots and potatoes done on the grill with some corn also. Following this great advice I put the porkchops in the water on a medium boil as the vegetables grilled. It was delicious

Well how did it turn out? As a gourmand, I can't really say anything bad about the method in question, it's all about the results. So how did it taste? You could of seasoned the water. Using a bit of lemon pepper would of livened things up. Perhaps curry, and some red pepper flakes.

1. Buy shit cuts of meat
2. Put malt vinegar, pepper corns, cloves, onions, carrots, celery, and whatever else you want for flavor
3. Set to very gentle simmer(<10 bubbles/second). Stick lid on.
4. You want to start with more water then required, so it simmers down to a nice soup or w.e
5. The meat is done when it is falling off the bone.

Tip: Trim excess fat off before boiling.

PRO tip;

1. Oil pan, lightly season steak
2. Cook steak until medium rare
3. Eat

3 steps, easy. Now got for a fucking walk and beat your doctor up. Lazy nigger.

EDIT: So you want to be a cheeky fuck and boil a t-bone?

1. Remove bone, it's easy as piss
2. Remove any gristle from the outside(leave fat on but remove any sinewy bits)
3. Place steak, along with salt, pepper, and anything else you want to season it with(chilli sauce + soy sauce + ???? works good) in a vacuum bag. Seal. Now, put another bag on top and seal again.
4. Leave in fridge for 12-24 hours.
5. Place package into simmering water for 35-45minutes. If you did it right the marinade will help tenderize it
6. Remove from water, allow to rest for 5-10 minutes
7. Cut package open and slide onto plate with marinade
8. Eat.
9. Put gun in mouth
10. Pull trigger

/the end

Soft cock. Bbq that shit pansy.

For fuck sake SALT DOESN'T tenderize steak , it toughens it. Leave salt untill after it is cooked.

Took me five whole seconds.

Maaan, I watched that movie twice in one night, once for me and almost immediately after because my friend didn't pick up on my references when I quoted it to him on MSN.

The best scene is when Lance drops acid at the Do Lung bridge and they're trying to find the commanding officer.

Head to your nearest slum. (S. Africa couldn't be too far from one) Ask someone there to cook your steak for you. I bet dollars to doughnuts they get it right.

GRILLING would give you approximately the same health benefits as your boil. Yet, it would taste SIGNIFICANTLY better!

not too bad with some maple syrup, but i feel like this process could be perfected better. ideas?
Wasted a perfectly good T-bone steak...

If you want to boil your meat, get a beef roast, boil it, shred it, and put it on sandwiches....

Boiled meat tastes terrible.

NO... Salt makes your steak like fucking shoe leather...

IF YOU WANT TO TENDERIZE YOUR STEAK... GET SOME FUCKING MEAT TENDERIZER! For best results, pound the steak with a frying pan, then puncture it with a fork all over, flip it over, do the same thing, then sprinkle a little bit of tenderizer onto both sides, flavor with garlic/onion salt or whatever, and then cook it... LEAVE SALT AND BLACK PEPPER OUT UNTIL MEAT IS COOKED! SALT TOUGHENS THE STEAK UP, AND BLACK PEPPER BURNS, LEAVING A NASTY BURNT TASTE ON YOUR FOOD!

I don't get how people can fuck cooking up... its one of the most important skills a person can have in their daily lives. Cooking isn't art, its fucking science. There are DOs and there are DON'Ts, and if you don't follow them, your food will suck... EVERY FUCKING TIME!

This is why every meal I cook I cook with scientific precision, so I get the exact same end product every time I prepare a meal. THIS IS CALLED CONSISTENCY!
