First guitar
I'm totally gonna learn to play. What would be a good guitar to learn guitar on? Not sure what price I'm looking for atm, just suggestions really.
What are the pros/cons of acoustic/electric?

Re: First guitar
Only faggots play acoustic.
Ibanez and Fender are some good electric brands. If you don't like them, then you can modify them to your taste by having the electronics changed n' such.

Re: First guitar
Yeah, modifying the electronics is very easy, but for a starter guitar i would recommend an electric guitar. They can get somewhat of an acoustic sound, they are light, they are much less obnoxiously large, and they can be plugged into an amp to get a ton of volume.
For a good starter guitar, try a fender, they usually have good starter guitars, like the Bullet.

Don't lie to yourself Zek: you're not a woman, you're not pretty and you will never learn the guitar.

Re: First guitar
Don't worry about what they say, I think you can do it. It's quite easy, not much of a hardship. I would say the only hard thing is finding out where to start.

Re: First guitar
Do not listen to anyone in this thread. They don't know shit about guitars.
With that said, if you're looking into buying an acoustic, look into guitars with solid tops or anything these manufacturers put out: Art and Lutherie, Norman, Seagull, Simon and Patrick. They're solid low end - mid range acoustic guitar brands. It costs more, in general, to have a decent electric guitar rig than it is to have a decent acoustic guitar, just FYI.
If you're looking into getting an electric guitar, it's hard for me to say what guitar would be right for you. If you let me know what kind of music you want to play, then I might have a better idea of what to suggest.
It doesn't really matter whether you play the electric or acoustic guitar though. In the end, the skills are transferable for the most part, so play what you think you'll enjoy playing the most.

Thanks! Uhm. I'd be wanting to play all kinds of music, not just one or three genres. The blues, various kinds of rock, jazz, and lots of other music interests me.

Since that's a wider range of music, I think the best route would be getting a Roland Cube. Here's a demo of how it sounds:

Now, the 80x version is unnecessary to get since it outputs enough power for gigging... you may be just as happy with the 30x version. You could look around craigslist or ebay and it will typically go for around 175-200.
I think the Ibanez RG321 is one of the best cheap guitars out there and can be had new for less than 300. It's easy to play and very versatile. Of course if you dig the Les Paul look and feel, I've been able to snag the Epiphone Les Paul Standard models for $240 CDN. Do not get get the Standard 100, Special, or Special II series though. They're garbage. The Studio model is as low as I would go and they can be had for about the same price.
So look to be spending about 400 for a decent guitar rig. Also: steer clear of "starter packs."

Re: First guitar
The Roland "Cube" IS a very cool little amp.
As far as low end electrics, for the money Ibanez is becoming VERY hard to beat. Alot of people dont like how thin their necks are, but they are worth looking into.

Re: First guitar
Buy a First Act electric guitar and amp. Really cheap. Doesn't sound like complete shit. And when you finally realize you don't have any real musical talent, you don't have to cry over spending 300+ usd on a decent setup for no reason.

You should really mention certain models because the entire Ibanez GIO is worthless, along with the RG series floyd models under the RG350, the AX series, etc.

Yeah, you just have to cry over the resale value. Dumbass.
btw op, everything I suggested has great resale value. so if you quit and sell it, you'll be out maybe 100 bucks if you buy it new. Out nothing if you buy it used.

Re: First guitar
This is the first guitar I got http://reviews.harmony-central.com/r...S-335+Dot/10/1
Very affordable, plays well acoustically because of it's a semi-hollow body guitar. Sounds amazing when overdriven, perfect for blues, but also sounds great clean. You can also throw in a couple of Gibson 57 Classic pickups into it and it sounds a lot closer to the Gibson ES335. I would pick up a electric guitar for your first, because they sound a lot better, and are much easier to play as electric guitars have a nicer action than acoustic guitars.

Per dollar, aka at the same price. So that leaves them next to squires, which they are better than
