Default Would you like to read this?

I'm not sure if this belongs here, but I'll just post:

I'm just curious as to what kind of audience I might have, if any, if I continued to write some of my stories.

Would you all like to read some fiction involving: cocaine, wealth, young people, class/race relations?

I know it's pretty general, but still. I don't know what's the point of continuing to writing this fairly long story if no one is interested, you know?

I think it depends on how you write it. While that stuff all sounds good it could easily wind up to be some boring ramble about someones wealthy cocaine fulled lifestyle. The subject matter allone doesnt make it interesting. Its like the difference between Trainspotting and Requiem for a Dream. Ones flat out boring preaching session that doesnt really introduce anything new to a familiar story, and ones an interesting and fairly different take on a fairly common subject matter. Same content essentually but totally different views and perspectives. Sorry I couldnt think of a better analogy

Yea, and besides, Sookie, it really doesn't matter if everyone else thinks you're going to be the next Charles Dickens with your story, or if they think it's some hack job. Do it for the experience, and if no one likes it, you can fine tune it, adjust your style, and get better. Regardless, I'll read it anyway.

Lol, which one did you think was the preaching session?

Well... I know..... sometimes I read over what I've written and see that I'm on the borderline between American Psycho and Gossip Girl.. and it depresses the fuck out of me. But then I read it again and it actually sounds decent.

Yeah.. I'm not really planning on publishing or anything but I still have that little part of my brain saying "but what if you do?"

To be totally honest I was talking about the movies... havent read either of the books, thus the shitty analogy. I dislike americans almost as much as I dislike most australians.

i would probably read it, but like others say, it all depends on how the story is told not the actual content of it. Though that does take a part. Make sure you always leave the reader wanting more

EDIT:i think trainspotting was the more boring of the two, perhaps. i liked both about the same though XD

Well, as far as the messages go, I guess Requiem was pretty cliched (if you do drugs, you'll die and stuff)... but the writing was much better. Trainspotting was just okay for me.

But yeah, I get what you're saying.

Blasphemy!!! But I know Caesar was referring to Requiem For A Dream. That movie was just chock full of anti-drug propaganda. Trainspotting was much, much, more realistic, and I fucking loved that movie.

Well, the point is that the both contain heroin and tragedy, but the way it was presented made all the difference. Same would go for your book idea.

And Requiem for a Dream is easily my most hated movie, although I gotta filming techniques were ok.
