Russian sniper rifles take aim at American market
Quote:
The shots are remarkable accurate, so it is easy to understand why this kind of weapon is the first choice for professional snipers and for those protecting Russia’s top leaders. If one wanted to shoot out the eye of a rabbit at a distance of one mile, this is the gun for it.
Tsar Cannon plans to enter the US market in the near future where, even though the market is dense with similar companies, the number of shooting ranches is many times bigger than in Russia. Therefore there is a demand for the best, hi-tech rifles.

lol..
I would love to meet the person that can hit any reasonable sized target at the distance of one mile.
That is almost as bad as these guys ( http://www.bradycampaign.org/) claiming fifty caliber shoulder fired rifles can be used to take down air planes in mid flight.

Re: Russian sniper rifles take aim at American market
meh we already have target rifles here. The only way they are getting into the market is if they offer their "hi tech weapon" for a better price than the rifles already here.

I thought the Arctic Warfare line was capable of extremely good accuracy already?
But still, kudos to them.

Re: Russian sniper rifles take aim at American market
It'll be interesting, considering that the Soviet school of sniping really creates what western armies would call "designated marksmen," which makes their "sniper rifles" not really sniper rifles to non-russians (the SVD for example).
Represents kind of a shift in tactics for Russian manufacturers, being as they've been making something entirely different for the past century.

If it's a good, cheap quality rifle, I'd be glad to own one.

“If a person wants a real gun – they come to us. I believe we build the most accurate guns in Europe,” Vladislav Lobaev says.
That's a rather fucking bold statement. Sako? AI? Parker-Hale?

Re: Russian sniper rifles take aim at American market
Actually the best accuracy is held by Chey-Tac. Blaser is also pretty close behind.

Does 5/8 of a mile count on a 12X16 inch target
So basically this is just a company that makes a lee-enfield type action, throws a somewhat nice stock on it, then a match barrel. Nothing to see here and
Chey-Tac has the most precise (god damn I want to smack people who say accurate) known system out there today.

Well, AIs probably group .5 MOA.
That is pretty easy to achieve in terms of mechanical accuracy and with match ammo.
However, the difference between the AI and everything else is that the AI holds that accuracy in nearly all conditions.
The AI has an internal block attached to the action so the rifle is completely free floated and rock steady no matter what. And, unlike most other bolt actions, the stock "skins" bolt on the the left and right side of the AI, so there are no specific torque settings that need to be set to retain the mechanical accuracy of the AI.
Basically bolt action sniper rifles come in two categories.
-Modified sporting rifles
and
-Rifles built by Accuracy International

Re: Russian sniper rifles take aim at American market
Well yes, but .5 MOA means that you are almost putting the rounds consistently in the same hole. At 1000 yds, and everything else remaining constant, your group will have opened to around 0.5 MOA (5-6 inches), which is still the diameter of the average human head.
Arguably not enough to put needles in the eyes of wascally wabbits, but enough to get the job done.

Typo .
To anyone wondering, 1MOA @ 100y = 1" - 1MOA @ 1000y = 10"

Sorry, forgot that MOA is angular and thus remains constant. Read my new thread. I seem to be having a case of the stupids tonight.

He's nit-picking about the technical differances between the words accurate and precise. Have a rifle precise means it's going to have a tight grouping, having a rifle accurate means that grouping is going to be centered at your point of aim(even if it's 30" wide).
Technically he is right, but he is being rather anal about it. We all know that when people say "accurate" in this context they really mean precise.
