Southern America
I was considering going to a holiday to America, most probably into one of the Southern States (Love those accents); so as far as that goes, which one would be the one to go too, are they all safe, boring/ fun, what do people do down there? That kind of stuff.
Thanks.

Re: Southern America
Don't go to the south, the accents are all they have going for them. I moved down there from the North and it's horrible. I mean unless your fine with 90% of the population being racist against anyone that's not white or wasn't born in America then go for it.
edit: go to the west coast or the northeast alot more fun and alot more to do.

Re: Southern America
I'd go during winter here; which would be summer over there, I believe. But then again I'm used to the heat, so it'll probably be cold there for me anywho.
I'm white, but I assume they'd still be racist to me for being Australian?

Re: Southern America
How about New Orleans? If you're older than 21, it's probably the most fun US city I can think of. It's the only city in the south that you'll be able to get around in without renting a car. Also, since the hurricane all the poor people have been pushed out-- making it even more tourist friendly.

Probably not since your just visiting I'm just saying your gonna hear more racism than you read on this board so if your fine with that then go for it. Usually from the vast majority I hear its usually blacks, mexicans, middle east, and asian so you should be good. As far as safeness goes you should check out Atlanta, GA
Edit: even though you like the southern accent depending on where you go in the south you probably won't be able to understand quite a few people cause it's much more harsh than portrayed on tv.

First off, I'm not 21. Would it be worth waiting till then to go over there?
I don't really mind racism that much though, we get plenty of it where I live.

Florida isn't a southern state though, its a wierd paradox that makes it a northern state in the south. From what I've seen/heard they don't act anything like their surrounding states. Except maybe the people that live in the everglades but never been deep in that shit.

If the only way you can have fun is with alcohol then wait till your 21 unless you find a chick bartender and throw some aussie phrases ie, dingo ate my baby, shrimp on the barbey type stuff and most females over here will automatically roll on their back and drop the panties

Tie my kangaroo down and all that shit eh.
Lol Actually, I probably could go live and go to school in one of the southern states for a month or two (I got an American uncle) not sure which state though, I know its in the south and they have lots of wine vinyards.
Any idea what that would be like?

definitely don't go to florida. besides its geographical location it hardly qualifies as a southern state. plus it's a total shithole.
new orleans is amazing. or as someone above me said georgia is very cultured and has lots of that southern charm. don't go to atlanta though. that place is completely worthless.

I live in the southern US.It's pretty nice down here Jacksonville,Florida is nice
One big advantage of living down here is in winter. Everyone else is freezing their asses off and i have worn a t-shirt and shorts on Christmas eve before.

Aye, here in the non-bumfuck parts of FL we speak with an accent more closely resembling that of the Northeast than of the South. Outside the Miami/Ft.Lauderdale metro areas, you get the southern accents quite a bit, even in places like Orlando or Tampa. Honest why would anyone come here; it's a shithole. We had record highs yesterday of 34C (93F) and the humidity is constantly at least at 70%-ish. If you want the accents without the nastiness, your best bet'd be North Carolina, I'm thinking. Go in the winter

Re: Southern America
Atlanta is more like the northern states (you won't find many accents there), but it's still viable. Florida should be physically separated from the rest of the continent and set ablaze.
You might want to go to a few different cities in the South, they're all within a 1-2 day drive with things on the way. I would recommend Chattanooga, TN, Charleston, SC, Athens, GA, Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA, and New Orleans, LA. Stay out of Mississippi and don't go farther West than that unless you want to see the Northwest (Oregon, Washington, Northern California).
As far as the blatant and rampant racism, that's being overemphasized in this thread. There are stupid people everywhere, we just call them 'rednecks' in the South.

oh shut up you stupid nigger, didn't anyone ever tell you not to play with fire if you couldn't handle the heat?

Both are fantastic cities. stay the fuck away from the upstate though, it is the most boring place in the whole south except for downtown greenville. gville holds all these festivals *cough*parties*cough* where all everyone does is drink beer, listen to loud music, and get shitfaced in the middle of main street. they do this every friday during the summer as well.

Go visit Texas. You will love it. And BTW, Americans love Aussies- you are a lot like us.
Don't believe everything you hear about the South. I lived in Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina for years and the people there were great. They just don't like Northerners- ever since the War Between The States.

Do you guys get humidity as well? In the summertime when it's real humid (95%+ r. humidity on a daily basis) the heat index can easily swing past 38

Yes the upstate sucks that's were I live as well. that initial post was just me bored and stereotyping the south. I could care less about the racism. But yes everything in the upstate sucks except, like you said downtown greenville. Spartanburg is horrible the only reason I go there is cause my roomate's tattoo shop is there.

Stay out of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Arkansas, and Utah.
Anywhere else is acceptable...and as far as someone above me saying that Alanta GA is safe...BAHAHAHA
Come to Chicago, you'd be able to to have an awesome time...and if your uncle is in Tenn. that's not too far from here.
