I just got a pet rat

I bought a rat from my neighbor who breeds snakes and uses them as pet food. I only got him as an incentive for him to drive me to the store to pick up some cigarettes. He's an albino and I named him Milo but as a nickname im going to call him Modest .... Mouse mouse har har har

I have to keep him in secrecy from my parents just to avoid having the chance of him getting taken away , they might not care but i dont feel like running the risk. I'm gonna wait 5 months and use the defense of them not even noticing him so he can stay for good. I know its childish but there wierd people and just wouldnt understand why id want a mouse

Any tips as far as caring for him? As of right now im going to feed him a small portion of apple in the morning , some grains in the mid day and a piece of carrot at night. Is this bad? I dont have access to rat food so im gonna go with fruits vegetables and grains to keep him healthy

At the moment I cant , not to say this will last long but im just going to grab a large circular shaped tupperware piece or something similar for him.

I have to keep him in a reasonable container so i can hide him when im not home or sleeping.

Well I'd suggest getting him in a bigger tupperware ASAP. In that thing no matter what he practically sleeps/eats/walks in his shit. Put toilet paper rolls and shit in there when you can too so he can chew on it.

Theres only one , the new home i made for him isnt 8 inches its around a foot long , its perfect. I cut a rectangle maybe half an inch wide running down the lid so i can pet him or let him enjoy some form of freedom by smelling the air or sniffing me from his new home.

The guy i got him from has tons of bedding i can get and i think i got everything down

1. Rat's need at LEAST three square feet of room each. On top of that, they need time every day to be out running around.
2. He needs a friend, rats are social animals.
3. Woodshavings are not good for rats. They're often allergic to them, and the chips usually have fleas or tics in them.
4. You're feeding him too many vegetables, he'll have runny poop. Alternate rat kibble (have some available all day) and give veggies, grains and yogurt once a day.
5. Don't ever try to feed it citrus or alphalpha.

she's spot on, don't try to keep him in a small tupperware. he's going to be pretty damn unhappy in a tupperware anyway. rats love to climb. Please get him a cage, and if you can't then give him to someone who can.

Going to grab the edge of that hole you just cut and chew till it can squeeze out.

P.S. You still need a much larger cage. Acrylic or wire will do, for now but you're need something a little more heavy duty when it gets bigger. I've seen rats chew through tons of shit.. Thinner gauge wire and part way through an aluminum drop pan.

They are relentless.
