Congrats to UFC's new LHW champion.
Congratulations Shogun, great performance, glad to see you're back to form and glad to see you finally recognized as the champ.
You beat a tough, seemingly unbeatable guy. No one could figure him out, much less hurt him. You did both. You wrote a text book out there on what to do when you fight Machida, problem is, there may not be anyone else in the world that has the ability to follow that strategy. You may be the only one who could do what you just did.
Your strategy was perfect, your execution was perfect, your cardio was off the charts. Just a terrific performance. Way to go champ
War Shogun, new UFC LHW champ and the number one LHW in the world

Re: Congrats to UFC's new LHW champion.
I'm still pissed about the decision
FUCK cecil peoples
I understand Shogun didn't try to end the fight enough in the last rounds, but there's no doubt Machida was a beaten man, and it was great to see it
The old boxing rule about needing to dominate the current champion to take the belt is outdated, and doesnt work in MMA
Also, great to see Velasquez destroy Rothwell, I can see the guy going places in the HW division
Shame about about the Lesnar fight being delayed because he got swine flu, I can't wait to see Carwin bang his face right up

Re: Congrats to UFC's new LHW champion.
Yeah, Shogun got robbed, badly.
Carwin is going to get wrecked by Lesnar. He has nothing to offer him. All he has is a tired 1-2 combination. He has terrible stand up defense, is mechanical and unless he bumrushes and backs Brock up, he's getting creamed.
Cain is very impressive, but he's got some fucking pillowhands.

Re: Congrats to UFC's new LHW champion.
Realistically, can you see any of the UFC HW's beating Lesnar?
I think big Nog could give it a shot, I also think Mir deserves a rubber match

I think Mir would deserve one if the second fight was anywhere near close, but he just got fucking destroyed. Lesnar is ever evolving and I shudder to think what he'd do to Mir a third time round. He almost creamed Mir the first time but fucked it up. There's just no interest in a third match up. Mir got tooled.
I think Kongo has a good shot if only he can get some fucking takedown defense because he's a solid striker. Cain I just see getting out wrestled. He doesn't have the striking power.
My money is on Nog and JDS. Carwin maybe, but it'll be a power shot, not a decisive win.

Seriously. I don't see how people can justify Carwin beating Brock, unless by a fluke knockout. Shane only got the title nod because of his size, nothing more. You can't exactly say he's proven himself against quality competition, or, really any competition at all. Gonzaga hardly counts as a decent opponent, the faggot that he is. I don't even think Carwin would perform that well against Cain or Dos Santos, both of whom - despite being HW prospects - aren't in Lesnar's realm.
Come to think of it, wasn't Carwin ranked at the BOTTOM of the HW division when they announced the fight? Fucking bullshit, just another example of Dana's prejudice against Pride fighters.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Nog has a decent shot at beating Brock.

Are you still gonna say that when Mir schools him standing and on the ground?

Yeah, Dana ragged Fedor for fighting Rogers yet Rogers is ranked higher than Carwin .
Dana needs to accept that there are other fighters out there. Just because they're not in the UFC doesn't mean they're somehow of a lower calibre. Any fan of the sport knows that. He may be trying to run a business, but it's still a competitive sport. Trashing fighters not in your org (yet) is more counter-productive than a savvy business ploy to make your fighters look better.

Not to mention Rogers annihilated a long time title contender in Arlovski in what, 30 seconds?
Compared to Carwin beating a fighter who can barely manage to stay on main cards.
Yeah, I wasn't talking about Brock, lol. Kongo is a garbage fighter.

Re: Congrats to UFC's new LHW champion.
He's got great stand up, but his wrestling/ground game is basically trash. Mir will take it to the ground. I think Kongo would rock him to death on the feet.
Beating Kongo on the ground isn't much of a challenge.

You think Kongo could best Mir's striking? The same striking that bested Brock standing up in both fights? I guess we'll see about that, lol.
Call me a bit of a Mir fanboy, but Kongo isn't in the same realm...Mir is an amazing fighter, both standing and on the ground. In my opinion, if they were to give Frank a rubber, a couple months to put on some solid weight, the results would come in very different than they did in the second fight. He's far from the gatekeeper Dana is trying to push him into.

Re: Congrats to UFC's new LHW champion.
Where did Mir best Brock on the feet in the first fight? .
Mir hit Brock with a couple of knees in the second and that's it. The stand up exchange was about 15 seconds long.

And that flurry of knee's was enough to overwhelm Brock.

I think calling two knees a flurry is stretching the English language, I don't know, Ooooh, say just a little? .
You're entitled to think what you will. I mean Mir is a great fighter, but i just can't see him offering anything to Brock.

Re: Congrats to UFC's new LHW champion.
^ Mir said after the second fight he felt it was only his core strength that let him down
It doesn't matter how skilled you are, the fact is Lesnar is one big motherfucker
I think if Mir works hard enough weight training he has a better shot than anyone else
I'm a huge Nog fan as well though, and I definitely wouldnt underestimate him against Brock

Maybe my memory of the fight is a little blurry, it was definitely a flurry of strikes though, was it not? Regardless, he still had Brock dazed and rocked, and his Muay Thai has only improved since then.

"He did a good job. He neutralized the stand-up," Mir said. "I got against the cage and made a dumb mistake. I let a guy that big and strong catch my wrist, and I guess I still got more stuff to work on."

There's a quote elsewhere from Mir talking about how Brock owned him on the ground with technique. Mir's words are kinda hollow though. He constantly flip flops on what he says. After Brock/Mir 1, he said Brock hit likea truck, then nearer the second fight he said it was like your sister hitting you .
At least Brock sticks to his guns (bar the Bud comments ).

Yeah, Mir tends to say a lot of stuff...
"Brock would kill Fedor", etc.

They should force the judges to spend 5 minutes each in the cage with Shogun for great justice.

It's a stupid match-up. Not only do they set Rogers bright career back a few notches if and when he loses(even a loss to the best in the world is a set back), they also run the risk of losing their nest egg should Fedor lose, as unlikely as that may be.
