Re: Movies like the blair witch project / cloverfield
i take it your talking about movies where its supposed to be as if they were actually filmed with a hand held camcorder? is so, you should have probably stated that in your original post.
Re: Movies like the blair witch project / cloverfield
I'm yet to see one of these movie's that is actually good. The idea seems really fucking cool, but no one seems to have been able to pull it off, or they have a decent plot idea that sounds good but they hire actors who have looks and nothing in the way of acting skills. Or alternatively that good idea's plot becomes shakey over the course of it.
REC had shitty acting and used nearly every fucking horror movie cliche. If you didn't see that shit where the guy sticks the camera into the attic to see what's up there part coming then you don't watch enough horror movies, I saw it coming and I don't watch 'em. There were only 2 things about the movie I liked: the woman with the hammer at the ending and hearing someone saying "grande."
Diary of The Dead was so piss poor that it made me want to kill Romero for making it. Normally he makes a pretty good zombie movie, but this was just shit. The whole "I'm documenting this for others to see" shit got fucking old fast, it nearly became every 3rd line from the main camera holding character's mourth. The set up of the film as if it were a documentary about something that happened was terrible too. Romero does some good flicks, but that was fucking terrible. If you haven't seen it, don't bother.
Cloverfield had good special effects but the acting really killed it for me. And the "I'm documenting this for others to see" shit also wore thin, not quite as bad as Diary of The Dead though. I've only watched this movie twice, neither of them very recently, so I probably can't give that much on it at the moment.
The August Underground movies were pretty shitty too, although the special effects were quite fucking good. If they had have gotten some decent actors and just made it a splatter movie to demonstrate gore effects and what not it could have worked, but they tried to throw in a story somewhere along the line and it just didn't work.
Blairwitch Project I have only seen once, that was a long time ago too (when it was first out, so I can't really comment on it.
Although I wouldn't mind seeing Paranormal Activity, it seems different to the others movies of this style and I've read promising things (although I also read very promising things about REC and that turned out to be a piece of shit that seemed to just be called good because "it's foriegn and not in english").

Re: Movies like the blair witch project / cloverfield
The scariest movie like this I've seen is Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County. I couldn't sleep for nights after watching it until I found out it was fake.
Yeah the remake is obviously scripted, but it was based on an original tape that was apparently real. There were news stories about it being real, etc, so yeah. I think it was even on Unsolved Mysteries? Well yeah, when I found out it was all bullshit I was relieved.
Re: Movies like the blair witch project / cloverfield
I just recently saw the blair witch project again and i realize its alot scarier now that i'm older. When I was younger and watching it was just like wtf who cares about some fucking slime covered bags and stupid tiny rock monuments.

...You're in your late 30's and misspelled demon? Face-palm. (as well as believe)
I don't think demons/demonic spirits being real is the issue...the issue is whether or not Paranormal activity was any good. And the obvious and only answer is it sucked more balls than your mom on christmas morning.
Shitty acting. And I mean shitty.
Only like 3 people in the entire film.
oh yea...NOTHING HAPPENS!!!!
The only good part is the ending, which isn't even that good and lasts around a minute.
It did give me the chills when she lunged at the camera and it said her body was never found.
Also, When she would get up in the middle of the night and just stand there milling around was kinda creepy, but led absolutely nowhere and the reactionary shots that followed were stupid.
And when her bf found an old picture of her that supposedly burned in a fire 10 years earlier or whatever was kinda cool, even if it was a bit predictable and cliche.
that's it. 3 cool things out of the entire movie. Gayest, lamest, shittiest movie made in the past 10 years.

Wtf? That's not the ending I saw.
In the ending I saw, after killing her boyfriend she just sat by her bed for hours and hours, eventually that one other girl came in, she finds the boyfriend, runs out and calls the cops. A few min. later the cops come, search the house, find her, she gets up and "runs" at them, and so they shoot her. The End.

AHAHAAH! I remember that movie. The highlight was like what,a cat jumping out of this cabinet and then the people get dragged away at the end randomly?
pull your head out of your ass and GET BACK ON TOPIC, stop derailing this thread troll.
you are the one who misspelled daemon, which leads me to believe you are in grade school. as a matter of fact, why dont you help your self to a fucking dictionary!
"demon" is the correct american english way of spelling it. same as color, flavor, fetus, uhhh...theater. (though i do see theatre as well...but my firefox spell check just underlined the re version).
spellings change over the years in different areas. not our fault.

Well, the biggest clue that it was bullshit was that every piece of equipment that used power was broken. Digital watches were broken, analog watches were broken, radio, television, telephone, truck battery exploded, etc.
If everything electronic is broken, why did the camera still work?
The reason it still worked is because you couldn't have a tape without it. Major plothole from the onset. That, and the credits at the end (director, writer, spaceship designer) gave the whole thing away.

And I actually liked the way Diary of the Dead was filmed, but do agree the over use of, "I'm filming this so everyone knows what happened", got old fast.
