Are doctors THAT ignorant?

So, i just went into a general pediatric care clinic thing with my mom. I've had a bad cough and fever for about 3 days. I was really just hoping there MIGHT be a chance to get some lean, or something.
I went in, let him know how i felt, and i end up walking about with a script for fucking 40, FORTY, 5/325 hydrocodone. 5/325?
Unbelievable. Well, i'm about to enjoy myself, but seriously, are doctors this stupid

Hydrocodone is the preferred medication for suppressing coughs, and APAP is good at reducing fevers. Theres really nothing better he could have given you, and doctors feel obligated to write you some kind of prescription when they charge $300 for a 15 minute appointment, so you got that one.

Yeah, narcotics are great for cough that isn't controlled by otc shit. Specifically for a dry, unproductive (no mucous) cough. I would think codeine is the "preferred" medication for cough, though, due to it's relatively common nautre. I get bronchitis and/or pneumonia frequently in the winter, and usually get at least a few bottles of codeine/prometh syrup, or if I'm lucky, hycodan (hydrocodone) syrup. Never gotten pills, but I actually prefer the syrup.

since when is hydrocodone used in suppressing coughs? *googles*...hmm, i never remember getting that as a kid and i always had coughs and bronchitis and shit. well i was a little kid so i guess they shy away from giving that...man i hate the taste of cough syrups and liquid medicines.

there was this one antibiotic that was white, no flavor added to it. maaan it was terrible. i refused to take it. the pink stuff, strawberry flavored i believe, i could just barely tolerate.

Yeah, I think its the liquid Amoxicillin that's like that; easily the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted. To this day I will feel sick to my stomach just from conjuring up the memory of what that shit used to taste like.

God, some day I'll have have the money to get into a pain management clinic. I have some serious back problems, and never get scripted anything better than hydrocodone.

I guess it makes sense though. The pain is just gonna get worse as I age, so there's no point in getting an insane tolerance now and suffering more later :-/
