Dude, im getting a netbook?

Some shit went down with my laptop, and cash is tight as fuck, so i was wondering if netbooks were the way to go. Is the price drop worth it? what would i be giving up as far as speed and such. Can you download pRon at a reasonable rate?? And if anybody could point me in the direction of a solid model i would be much obliged.

Think of a netbook as the bridge between a low budget laptop and a high priced cell phone. You won't get much performance beyond checking email, the occasional word document etc.


The 'pRon'streaming will be jittery, most netbooks don't have any type of graphics processing so all of it is pushed through the already strained processor.



Having said all that you can find a decent laptop with a larger screen and a built in dvd drive (netbooks don't have one) for sometimes even less than the cost of a netbook.

Go for the Nvidia ION Netbooks if you're planning on getting one. Other than that follow what BlackopsNinja said.

Go for Asus but netbooks. But unless you're getting the Nvidia ION ones I don't think it's a good idea.

With Atom 330 Dual Core processor and 1GB Nvidia ION GPU you can easily watch BluRay [HD].

EDIT: That is only available for Eee Box EB1501.

A netbook is extrememly useful. I have all my textbook in pdf format and just access them through my netbook.

you can browse the web and do all the everyday tasks you want (not high-end gaming).

I've never had any problem with streaming media on even the lowest end netbook.

You can do basically whatever the fuck you want, just not all at the same time. I'm always running firefox and itunes on my aspire one, often running another program like GIMP, movie maker, dc++ or skype as well.

'occasional word document' makes it sound like you're almost entirely limited to the internet...

The kind of specs of the average netbook has - say a 1.4 ghz CPU and 512mb of RAM - is what a high-end machine would have had 7 years ago. And back then computers could do a lot more than the occasional Word document.

They can basically do everything except graphics-intensive stuff, and even CPU heavy programs will just drag on a bit.
