Default Martial Arts

I plan on getting off my arts and doing this sometime this year. I like the idea of martial arts, always have but never had the opportunity to do one. I'm wondering how fit it will keep me and what effects it will have on a female body. Obviously being a girl I wouldn't want to become 'bulky' etc. So suggestions or advice?

You cannot, will not, ever become bulky doing martial arts. The body isn't being trained in that way. You will probably get into much better shape doing it, depending on the type you take.

What kind are you planning on taking exactly?

Depends what is in the area I'm moving too (it'll be a fresh start really).

I'll have a quick look on the net and see what they have.

What's listed is Lai Taekwondo and Taekido Kai Martial Arts. I've never heard of the second one.

She's got a great body from MAs.

Those martial arts schools you said are probably McDojos and aren't going to be training with any real intensity.
Check if they have fighters that compete or look for another gym that does, gyms that have fighters will probably train harder and more effectively.
Where are you moving too?

A small town and hour or two from Sydney so all they have (that I could see on the internet) was McDojo's. I'll have to look into them more when I move.

check them both out.

I found it's more about the instructor than the style or the facility.
A good instructor pulls from several styles anyway, ala Jeet Kune Do.
Convenience is important also, especially if you're going to take classes nearly daily.
Tae Kwon Do is guaranteed to emphasize kicks, which should go further in getting you into shape than punching.
But again, I've seen good and crappy instructors in the same style.
So, style should be secondary, IMO.
I suggest making your choice by how you relate to the instructor.
If you have the cash, going to multiple schools is a winner.
Don't listen to people who tell you that you have to take only one style at a time. They won't be speaking from experience.

I now utilize the "face meets palm like rushing wind of north star" technique...

...look up female olympic powerlifters. See if you can tell which ones use 'roids. Then, ask yourself why you could tell which ones use 'roids.

You are not at, nor will you ever attain, an olympic level of training intensity no matter what the fuck you do. Not gonna happen. Even if you were a male - who produces an ungodly amount of anabolic testosterone naturally - you would not "zomg become teh bulkzorz!" unless you spent an ungodly amount of fucking work attempting to attain specifically that goal.

Hell. Pushing your bench up above 300 without bulking at all isn't even that hard to do... or at least not if you're starting from "average healthy" male physique. Seeing as you don't even produce enough testosterone to grow a decent mustache, there's probably close to nothing (noninjectable) you're likely to do that would "zomg make uz luk bulky and nonfeminine!!one!"

So please... put that lie to rest. If you were male, bruce lee - who was probably the fitness lead of the martial arts world by far - would be an example of the upper limit in bulk from the fitness specializations of combat training.

You, otoh, are not male... and there's no way in hell you're really going to put that much work in. For starters, you're not fit enough to perform that kind of routine yet, and wouldn't be unless you work at it - and secondly, there can only be one "world's most fit," and if you were determined enough to someday be it, you wouldn't exactly let superficial apperance stop you, would you?

Yeah. Not going to happen, and you're not motivated enough to get that kind of bulk even if it did result from this. Put that lie to rest, finally. People can't "accidentally" bulk, and all that fucking myth has done is result in people dying due to poor fitness, with no positive benefits.

lol...

...you can burn between 1500-2000 calories an hour if you really, really get into training hard.... 'n if you go that far, you'll have the stamina to match...

...basically, you'll be lean, amazing explosive strength, good endurance, good flexibility, improved reflexes, balance, and coordination. 'n if you really get into it, you'll have surreally improved reflexes, balance, and coordination, to the degree that it will fundamentally alter the way in which you interact with the world.

Oh, and current research suggest it's pretty much impossible to develop osteoporosis while remaining active and slamming your shins/elbows/fists into the mat/bag/etc... though it'll probably be a while before you get all worried about destimulation of estrogen receptors in bone tissue, or anything...

'bout the same as the effects it would have on anyone's body, except you'll still be female.

Like I noted, Bruce Lee probably was the peak fitness expert and practicioner in the martial arts. Compare his wiry physique to the average healthy college-aged male, and then pretend it's female. Lean, slender, firm...

'n HLC is right. Since its validity as a martial art depends more on what you bring to your training than the training itself, the instructor and the tone of the class are key...

...but, that has little to do with whether it will make you pretty enough to sit passively while boys select you for their sexual gratification... so, rest assured, you couldn't get bulky if you tried, and if you did try, martial study wouldn't be the path you would want to choose. Consider it to be really bitchin' cardio work, albiet with a few other benefits. Like... flexibility. Or the ability to balance your entire bodyweight on one little stabilization muscle that most people go their whole life without using, while completely ignoring the major muscles which most people are familiar with...

I don't think traditional martial arts are the answer. Try looking for something more modern like Jeet Kune Do, Senshido, or Krav Maga.

I've heard good things about Krav Maga. Will get you into shape, but apparently it's quite good as a self-defense form. I'd try to go with that, lots of practical application for that form.

Or Jeet Kune Do, same thing.
