So men wearing skirts is cool now, right?
Jesus... I hate the people behind trend-setting... So, I was browsing Perez Hilton the other day, when I clicked a link to his post on the 2010 H&M Men's Spring collection.
HARD GAY
A good deal of the outfits looked like gaudy trash, but most of all, there were men wearing skirts; men!! I'm all for looking good, but that's ridiculous. I sure as heck wouldn't be caught dead in one. It isn't innovative and it isn't stylish for these designers to think they're going to get away with pulling this; it's just stupid. Maybe this'll be the new fashion trend of the 2010 decade? Oh, Dieu nous en garde! Opinions? Link, and link

Re: Men wearing skirts
I didn't mean kilts. That's traditional garb. I meant to talk about this 'haute couture' nonsense, not Scottish wear

Re: Men wearing skirts
Q. Why do they call it a "kilt"?
A. Because a lot of people got kilt when they called it a skirt.
Admit it- you liked that picture. ;-]

actually, perez is right. it IS a bold move. i also think perez is not agreeing with them, but simply stating the fact that putting skirts on men takes some serious fashion balls...
in a few months when they bomb he'll probably say he didn't like them anyway
if he liked the idea he would have been excited, you know perez.

Fashion was supposed to be an accessory to your own looks. Now it's just the opposite

Re: So men wearing skirts is cool now, right?
I find skirts comfortable and have worn them in the past, but they were a hell of a lot cooler than that.
Put on a vinyl skirt and you will swim in hot goth pussy.
Looks like someone misplaced girl skirts in the mens section and some fuckwits thought it was cool.

Re: So men wearing skirts is cool now, right?
Kilts are different from skirts. Skirts are either pleated all-around or not at all (usually), while kilts only have pleating in the back. There's a fine line between the two, sure, but the line is still present
In any case, I saw a mini-magazine in a newspaper recently about men's fashion. I flipped through it and I was appalled. There's a big difference between borrowing ideas from women's fashion and taking the same outfit and putting it on a man (crossdressing). Harem pants, 'samurai' pants (these things happened to be skirts with a bottom that was closed save for two leg holes)? Just because these things can be sold to men doesn't necessarily mean they should.

Fashion should be created by individuals, not dictated by companies. Don't listen to the whispering masters kiddies.

Yeah the pleating is quite important for a kilt, you can see what I mean if you see someone walking in one.
Also, kilts wrap around you, kinda like a towel. Then they fasten with buckles and a belt.

Depends on what exactly you mean. Patterns, forms, designs and colors are the basics of fashion, and it's hard to make all of these unless you have all the right tools. If you do have the right tools, then you ought to become some sort of manufacturer.
I think I understand what you're getting at, though, but the main problem is that when one is creating their own style, even if it's a D.I.Y. project, what's available is dictated by those companies. It's hard to "do your own thing" when all the things aren't yours.

Re: So men wearing skirts is cool now, right?
Hey, not that long ago people made a huge deal about women wearing pants. It's the same god damned thing going on in this thread. If it's okay for women to wear men's clothes, then logically it should be okay for men to wear women's clothes. But that isn't the case. Since the old days, pants have become androgynous whereas skirts have mostly stayed feminine.
I personally wouldn't wear a skirt and neither do I really think that other mean should be wearing them. I think men should be allowed to wear them, but I think it's just queer for men to be wearing skirts.
Although I do admit, from the experience of my girlfriend making me wear one of her skirts, they're pretty damned comfortable(unless maybe when you're running from a rapist).

Re: So men wearing skirts is cool now, right?
once you go kilt you never go back, now that spring has finally hit i'm kilted every day pretty much.
shits comfortable, and a nice unique style.
wearing the plaid is one thing, i've got a very nice high quality one in family colors for dressing up, a cheap ass USMC plaid for kicking around the house and a black amerikilt for outdoor stuff, its heavy duty, less likely to snag.
I'm thinking utilikilt next, the amerikilt has a sporran in front, but the utilikilt is basically cargo shorts without legs.
Not that any of you give a fuck, but i'm all about spreading the word of the kilt.

It is difficult. Let me take wise King Solomon's maxim:
"Ecclesiastes 1:9 (King James Version)
9The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun."
Indeed, what we think is new has been done. We must be limited to color and form if we seek to wear clothes, and of course there are many practical considerations (pockets, for instance) but at no point whatsoever are we forced to define ourselves by a label, a company, a form, a viewpoint, or any other telltale sign of the herd-mentality trapping us within the range of normality.
Why be normal and limit the inconceivable range of your individuality's potential? If you wear what you want, how you want, and most of all be yourself thereby expressing your own style in every nuanced way you will, you create your own fashion and no one elses. And that is exactly how it should be. Otherwise we are slaves.
