The choice of trolling or not
I suggest that when making a new thread, OP must choose between these 3 possibilities :
- Serious thread
- Smart trolling allowed
- Free discussion
Everybody would clearly know the consequences of their acts. This would prevent many people from crying when they are infracted.

Re: The choice of trolling or not
This one is lending toward a bitch, and I almost sent it there.. but we'll leave it here for now and see how it develops. If it turns into a bitch-fest... off to PEOO it goes... and of course, derailers will be sampled for taste.

Re: The choice of trolling or not
Do you mean choose consciously? Or are those like options you pick for the post?

So do you mean we should tell everyone it's a serious post?

That's true, but everybody has a right to open expression, as long as it's within reason.

There are people posting because they have real problems (yes, it happens). They expect serious answers but they only get bullshit.
Also, when you want to post for the lulz, you must go to Bat Country. This forum is really messy ; it's just a way of getting rid of all the trollers.
With the possibility of choosing the seriousness of a thread, you could have fun in all the forums without disturbing anyone.

So, the mods of the serious forums would then look at the threads and move those that are set to allow trolling to PEOO, GS, the Trashcan or BC, because those threads don't belong in the serious forums anyways. In short, your idea solves nothing except figuring out whether the original poster wanted the thread to be posted in another forum in the first place.
I would NOT allow a trolling-permitted thread to remain in my forum. It'd get moved or closed, no questions asked.

But wouldnt marking the thread as serious just attract more trolls? The more serious someone is the funnier it is to troll them.

Except your forgetting that we don't live in a perfect world and the trolls will pick serious thread anyway.
Oh and HB isn't a place for trolls we have a nice comunity there if you exclude 2 or 3 people.

Re: The choice of trolling or not
I consider PEOO and IGAIM serious forums as well, and I find the ones that are not so serious to be Bat Country and Generally speaking. Of course, if no one took users' complaints on moderator actions seriously, there would be absolutely no point in posting there. Same for users' bitches. To them, it's a serious discussion-topic, and that's exactly how they will be treated, regardless of the status-quo.

Then they get infracted for trolling or off-topic posting. Yes, there's a trolling infraction, and it is available for use. It's 4 points, and lasts 14 days. If they accumulate 10 points before that expires, it's a ban from the site.

True, I was more thinking in terms of "trolling" threads that are basically just bitching, rather than actual trolling. A lot of people get the two confused. Therefore, just because they're marked for trolling, doesn't mean they wouldn't fit better in PEOO than BC, if that makes sense.

Re: The choice of trolling or not
I think this would be a good idea, but put it on top of the thread. I personally hate viewing a thread for 20 minutes, only to get Bel-Aired. I don't want any troll, even if it is a 'smart' one.

I know. But if users get infracted, their protestations would sound more ridiculous than with the current rules.
I understand that the mods doesn't want "official" troll threads in their forums. So, what about making subforums in Bat Country which would have the same names than the most troll-attracting forums ?

Re: The choice of trolling or not
See.. there's two kinds of trolls. There's genuine trolls, and then there's fail-trolls. Genuine trolls are rarely detected, whereas fail-trolls are simply annoying retards/posers who like to drop useless garbage and steaming piles of utter shit all over the discussion-forums. But one thing in common with both types of troll is the need for a serious-discussion forum in order to do business... it's hardly effective to either troll or fail-troll in Bat Country.. where 99% of the prospects are drooling morons and shovel-nosed 10 year olds. And this brings us to the final conclusion: trolls and fail-trolls alike are an unavoidable fact of discussion-forums. Without those forums to do their dirty work in, there can be no trolls, fail-troll or otherwise. A troll or fail-troll exists entirely because there are discussion-forums.
