Acetone Peroxide: Dangerously Explosive or Dangerously Delicious?
So, I don't know how much of this board is members of BB back on &T, but a few years ago one of the regulars accidentally ingested some AP and noted some kind of delicious taste. It looked troll at first but I think it turned out to be legitimate. I forget what the conclusion was. Might have been cancer or toxicity risks or some such, but I forget. Well, I was roaming the internet today and cam across this little tidbit, and I figured someone here would appreciate it.
While the article doesn't mention AP specifically, that is where my money would lie, if I had to guess.

lol@story
Also, I vaguely remember the thread about ingesting AP. Don't remember his conclusions, but I would say that if it weren't worth remembering better, then he probably never experienced anything too sucky.

well, some lead salts taste sweet, so a chemical like AP could have a taste. never tried it myself though, and neither should you

All good advice.

Lead salts taste sweet? Man I would not want to be the one to discover that. On a similar note, a buddy of mine was melting down some lead crap and he said the entire area smelled like fruit-loops. Must be something about lead. Out of curiosity, what connection did you see between AP and lead salts?

Re: Acetone Peroxide: Dangerously Explosive or Dangerously Delicious?
May I post this? Who isn't fond of the smell of aromatic hydrocarbons, let alone other delicious chems.
From today's news:
"A STUDENT blew his head off when he tried to make a Willy Wonka-style long-lasting chewing gum.
The home-made sweet EXPLODED in his mouth.
Experts believe an ingredient reacted with saliva when the 25-year-old chemistry student tried to blow a bubble.
The lad's parents dashed into his room after hearing a "loud pop", police said.
They found their son lying dead with his jaw blown away."

And he had an apparently strong admiration for Willy Wonka.
Interesting--but then again, the Sun is hardly a credible news source.

Yeah lead acetate was used as a sweetener for a while. AP might have a sweet flavor.

Re: Acetone Peroxide: Dangerously Explosive or Dangerously Delicious?
Death Snuggle once confused his AP with meth. He ate some AP, then went out to do a hammer test on his meth. When it didn't explode, he become worried, and then recognized his mistake. He indeed lived to tell about it though. Good thing he didn't try to smoke it!

Haha, I remember that thread. IIRC the OP reportedly said that it tasted like some kind of chicken seasoning.

Re: Acetone Peroxide: Dangerously Explosive or Dangerously Delicious?
Lol! I posted that thread after one of my first synth's of AP. It tastes like chicken salt, except.. differnt.. more strong. It'd taste great on chips. It's not sweet though.
Also in the original thread we determined that it would only be a little toxic due to acetone breaking down in the body, but acetone traces already exist in the body/things we consume so it isn't that bad.
But yeah. Tasty shit. After making it into a powder i was licking it off my fingers.

It's probably the same kid. Though in this story they didn't mention the citric acid.

I was hoping the person that made that thread would see this. Well, I guess the lesson is that you shouldn't put it on your food, or you'll get your jaw blown off.
BTWM I clicked the link in your sig. Why do you always draw this building so tall?

Re: Acetone Peroxide: Dangerously Explosive or Dangerously Delicious?
C6H12O4 (dimer)
C9H18O6 (trimer)
chemial formula. I'm not sure how that's toxic.

It's a lesser Chicago Landmark, so I would presume he's exxagerating the size for that effect. oh, thanks. this is the movie I remember watching wayyyy ago http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventures_in_Babysitting
I remembered that section with the kids climbing/stuck on the Diamond Building long ago.
