Cool stuff! Too bad most of our current architecture doesn't look that cool.

Dude, have you seen the central business district of Shanghai, most of that was built up after 1990. Also a lot of other Chinese cities and places like Seoul-Incheon and Hong Kong, Malay cities and Bangkok, etc.

I guess they don't have the 'scale' (as in vertical height and huge-ass buildings; YET) but they look cool

also related. http://img.megachan.net/city/

the 'guess the city' thread here is nice too. needs more large and futuristic east-asian cities.

EDIT:

Also Burj Dubai was recently built

Actually I kinda meant here in the US.

But yeah, you're right. I've seen those before and it's quite impressive.

How come the gooks are beating us at everything!?

Yeah. Even the larger American cities are outdated in things *cough* Chicago El jacking up prices and lack of new lines *cough*

Because the honkeys spent the past 60 years of their resources on suburbs to get away from the niggaz, instead of contributing to fixing their cities/keeping them from going to shit

From 1950s to 1970s in Chicago's city core, for example there was no sort of new major construction going on; most of that was going in the suburban areas and eventually the Edge cities that sprung up. Construction of Sears Tower and John Hancock center changed that dearth in urban core building.

Building the interstates through city neighborhoods didn't help, that was part of what caused the Bronx to go to shit. Why didn't they try tunneling or something less invasive =/

Or a trickle down road system, from the interstates to local boulevards in the larger cities? (interstates being out of the metro area and it slows down when getting in the large cities; similar to what happens with US Routes. Other than the strategic value of the interstate (quickly moving troops in a shattered United States after WW3)

I really like the style of drawing.

On the topic of 'futurism' - here's something rather special:

Poeme Electronique (youtube)

Explanation - in depth
Wiki Article

In short, Edgard Varèse and friends made a representation of 'future music' - 452 oddly angled speakers each set to play different sounds at different times, along with sculptures, mirrors and other media.

Love that sort of architecture. Reminds me of Gotham. I was actually quite surprised when I came and Manhattan, some of the old-stone-huge-ass buildings really reminded me of Batman. And Fallout.

New York City's Manhattan District Borough has a shitload of Art Deco, as you're well aware of already (See the Chrysler Building and Empire State).

Some of the Stalinist architecture is also cool and seems influenced by Art Deco

That's the old-school 1950s techno music. Though there were synthesizers back dating to the 1800s

EDIT: lol. yeah. Ishkur had a section on his guide on that sort of stuff. Think he described it as 'artists pretending to be scientists'. Then on a related genre, he considered it made by 'scientists pretending to be artists'

SOME of the futurama stuff does look awful close to what Dubai is becoming.

Here's some real-life stuff. Check out the rest of the blog, it's mostly photographic and has a strong bent for strange and unusual architecture.

I've got some upskirt pics of Empire State, teehee, but I really need to checkout some view points around the Chrysler Building and also take some shots.
