Tattos you did yourself
What kind of ink did you use, where did you get it, is the tatto still there? Pics? I want to do one myself.

Re: Tattos you did yourself
I have an 'L' on my left quad, and an 'R' on my right... you know, so I don't forget.
I used a homemade gun and ink from an old fine-liner. It had a very low viscosity. The ink faded pretty bad, and dropped out in places where I knocked the scab off prematurely, but whatever.

Re: Tattos you did yourself
A pal and I did the good ole "wrap-a-needle-with-thread-around-a-pencil-and-dip-it-in-pen-ink" method, its stayed for a good four months, but faded. We find branding to be MUCH more successful!

Alright, first off I already have a brand I did like... 3 years ago. Still there too. So this isn't the best method to get a tattoo?

Re: Tattos you did yourself
As an idea, you could get carbon black out of laser printer cartridges to do long lasting black tattoos, it would still need to be mixed with some glycerine or whatever else is used to make it a liquid.
That said, I'd strongly recommend going to a real tattoo artist if you plan on being inked permanently. Alternatively buying a cheap tattoo kit would be preferable to making your own dodgy inks/needles.

Re: Tattos you did yourself
Woo stick'n pokes. I have a butt load. An anarchy symbol on my ankle I did years ago, a little star that looks like a birthmark on my left calf that I did with a tattoo gun that I built with an electric toothbrush, a flowery design thing on my hand/thumb area that my girlfriend did (she's the stick'n poke queen), a 40 bottle with the letter R on it on my other ankle (stands for Ray Ray, the guy who did it, we were real drunk) and last but not least the word 'SOUP' across my right tuckles (toe knuckles).
You can use India Ink (found in any art supply store, I stole mine from the art room in grade 8).
Take a needle, wrap it in thread so just the little tip is exposed, then start stick'n poking. If you want some extra grip you can wrap some tape around the top, or use a bent safety pin.
Don't pick the scab off and keep it moisturized. You'll get a feel for how deep too go after awhile (remember, it's better to go too deep then not deep enough). You'll probably have to touch it up after it's totally healed.
EDIT: Side note, I just bought a profesional tattoo gun kit off the internet for about $160 CAN. It gets here next week sometime. If you're planning on doing as many stick'n pokes and my girlfriend and I do (we have a new one every week) it's probably a good idea to invest in a gun. The starter kit comes with ink as well.

Cool man, I always thought you just did it like you were sewing, instead of wrapping the thread around the needle. Anyway, thanks.

side note: hilarity ensues when you contract hepatitus or HIV from one of your friends from giving them a tattoo and not sterilizing properly.

Re: Tattos you did yourself
I have three, and all of them are all over a year old with no fading. I was absolutely hammered and used a needle attached to a pen with thread wrapped around it to nearly the tip. For ink I used India Ink, specifically the Pro Art brand, but I'm sure any India Ink may be fine.
as for what I did...

My friend made a joke, and I went through with it.

Was going to cover my whole foot with a geometric pattern, but I spilled all the ink on my tan apartment floor and had to clean ASAP.

So basically just get a needle, like a sewing needle, wrap it in thread, dip it in india ink and poke it in yourself?

Re: Tattos you did yourself
Just go on ebay and buy a cheap tattoo gun set. I paid like 50 bucks and got 2 guns, a bunch of sterile needles, ink, and a power source. I gave myself a pig on my thigh, it looks pretty legit.

Re: Tattos you did yourself
I've used ink from a permanent sharpie, and used a home made needle. Yes the tattoo is still there but its not clear as it was a year ago.
The star i've done on my right ankle:
The tool i've used. I've added one more needle because it was taking too much time with juste one hole at a time.
The result 13 months later:
It's really easy to do. First draw what you want to tattoo with a bic pen. Then put the tip of the needle in the ink and poke your skin with it. You will need to put ink on the needle every 1 or 2 holes. I've used isopropyl alcohol to clean my skin once in a while while poking it. That pretty much sums it.
Have fun !

Re: Tattos you did yourself

Four or five years old. Second girliest spot to have a tat, inner ankle. It's charcoal rubbed in to cuts I made with a razor blade. Fucking sweet, one of my favorite ones. Looks like shit though.

Have I just had too much to drink, or is there nothing there? Not trying to start a fight, but I don't see shit.

Its not carbon black anymore, They use Fe(II,III) Oxide, Fe3O4, black iron oxide, or black rust. Whatever you call it, its not good for you.

Re: Tattos you did yourself
I did this earlier tonight when I got bored with a real tattoo machine setup.
Stick and poke tattoos? They're shit. Those tattoo bundles you buy off of eBay for $160? They're shit too. They come all super fucked up with weak frames and they're cheap for a reason.
I'm not saying that the tattoo I did was the best though; I'm still learning.

Wow, really, never heard of a knee before...

I did a little smiley face on my ankle and a revers crusafix on my wrist when I was like 13/14 with a permanant marker and a pin. I don't think this really justifies posting any pictures though..
