Celebrating Valentine's Day... Or Not
With Valentines day being tomorrow, I ask those of you with significant others of any kind, what will you be doing for Valentines day, if anything at all?
My girlfriend and I have decided not to do anything for it. We feel the holiday has become very much commercialized, and has more to do with buying presents, flowers and chocolate than it has to do with love and togetherness these days. I'm glad my girlfriend is sensible and actually suggested not doing anything for Valentine's day, instead of expecting to be showered with gifts like some girls would expect. We'll be having a nice dinner together on Friday for our 2 year anniversary anyways, which we both feel is a more meaningful occasion.
What are your thoughts Zoklet? What are your plans for tomorrow, if any? Even if you're single, feel free to toss in your input on the holiday.

No J.P.W, there are lots of girls that don't celebrate Valentine's Day and don't want anything to do with it.
I take any excuse to celebrate. It's how I was raised.

No Euda, women are all the same and she will throw a fit if he doesn't show up with a present.

No, I'm fucked if I DO buy her a present. We both agree that the holiday is commercial and meaningless to us, and we don't wish to celebrate it by buying gifts and such.

No... She won't... We aren't even spending the day together. She is visiting with her parents for the day.

If Valentine's day is so meaningless, shouldn't it be like any other day?
|
It is like any other day... She wouldn't get mad or tear my head off or anything if I did buy her a gift, but since we agreed not to get each other anything for valentines day, she might not like it if I got her something anyways.

Re: Celebrating Valentine's Day... Or Not
My boyfriend and I are just having an ordinary day. I might say "happy valentines day" to him or something but other than that...nothing special. I'm going to his house where we might mess around on the internet, have sex, and talk. C'est la vie.

Re: Celebrating Valentine's Day... Or Not
My boyfriend and I don't celebrate it either. We're going out for lunch, but mostly because he has a gift certificate from Christmas that he wants to use. It's not really anything to do with the holiday.
I did make him some chocolate chip cookies today, though. But aside from that, I don't really see the big deal about Valentines Day, and in general I think it's rather stupid.
And J.P.W., I'll probably be rather annoyed if he does show up with a gift, because we specifically agreed not to get any. It's nice to get gifts, but I'd want a gift because he spontaneously decided to get one, not because a holiday told him he had to...

Re: Celebrating Valentine's Day... Or Not
Valentine's Day is just another shit holiday that seems to have been created to put pressure on (weak) guys to spend. If my woman was the type to expect me to put out money just because the calendar told me to, she would've been long gone by now...

Re: Celebrating Valentine's Day... Or Not
I have a girlfriend and we are not spending the day together due to obligations on both sides, plus why express your love one day out of the year when it could be any day? Anyway, we originally agreed that Valentine's Day was a scam to get people to buy each other expensive shit, like another user mentioned. I admit I was somewhat disappointed to hear my girlfriend was unavailable that day however, because I wanted to plan a bit of a surprise.

Pretty much.
Marks my 20th strait year of being bitter and alone on this day, actually. Do I get some sort of award?
