View Full Version : Does smoking green tea get you high? the final word

I started to get sick of all the published articles showing up at the front page about smoking green, some that say it gets you high, others saying it doesn't. The truth is that it does have psychoactive alkaloids including methylxanthins, theanine, and in some tea's bergamottin. Smoking green tea, just like drinking it can alter your mood in positive ways. Though only high-grade tea's have a high enough content of those alkaloids for significant effects/Generally, the higher the quality the more theanine and caffeine is present. and they even-out themselves, trimming down each others edges. Some would argue that the theanine is destroyed by heat, but many people attest to the effects being more relaxing than stimulating, without any apparent lightheadedness which is a result of oxygen deprivation. Here's my experience with smoking green tea:

Emptied a cigarette, stashed away the tobacco, then packed the cigarette densely with some high quality white tea. Light the tea cigarette with bic lighter and take a few puffs without inhaling. The aroma and flavour is sweet and very pleasant, especially when contrasted to tobacco or those disgusting herbal cigarettes, so that's +1.

It burns very slowly, due to the fineness of the tea leaf, having more mass is able to take up more space than the tobacco would. Tiny leaf grains fly from the cigarette which is kind of kind of annoying. Smoke is held in 1-4 seconds per drag. First effect felt after a few drag of the way done. Felt like a slight adrenaline rush, but is possibly just placebo effect because I had another stoner moment and forgot i was just smoking tea cigarette.

Over a quarter of the way down and starting to feel a sense of calm and slight increase in energy both mental and physical energy. Bit over half way done start to feel physical tension going away, and more of a calm alertness. Finish the cigarette and flick away. Lay down on my bed. Definately feel a general change in consciousness. I found it much easier to relax. but difficult to sink into a waking dream. Felt waves of euphoria run through my body, seeming to start at the legs. Feel very relaxed at this point, and considering making another cigarette, but I just felt so comfy that i'd rather just lay there for now. The effects started tapering off after about an hour.

Bottom line: Found it to be very pleasant and definately worth trying again. Effects are very balanced, with a combined relaxation and calmness, with increase mental alertness and physical energy. Though it does not have the painkilling effect and increase in cognitive function, I think that this may be a suitable substitute for tobacco because it has a better flavour and aroma than normal cigarettes, a compareable psychoactive effect, and is much less harmful and may even have some health benefits from anti-oxidants and other constituents beneficial to the human body.

JoePedo made a pretty neat post about Green Tea before.

"Next time, brew a gallon of strong-ass - as in, several times darker than what you'd be willing to drink, and strengthen it with moar tea in multiple steeps rather than just brewing one or two teabags 'till they keel over and die.

Filter it, boil it down to about a cup, and filter it again - preferably while still hot.

Add twice its volume in high-proof ethanol. A precipitate should form; it will likely be cloudy, fluffy and white, but this is unconfirmed.

Strain through a coffee filter and keep the precipitate. Eat this shit to experience the real high of green tea... and drink your water-ethanol mix for a tasty-flavored way to get your drizzunk on, but don't mix the two together. It'd be like mixing benzos and alcohol, except with a technical-grade sample of a less-explored GABA agonist.

Enjoy your green tea extracted superdank pseudobenzoid. Don't worry if it turns brown on contact with air, most peptides do, and the individual amino monomers - including the rare and esoteric l-theanine - are generally unharmed.

If, on the other hand, you want an experience similar to smoking green tea... just grab some vivarin, recrystallize from iso, and throw on tinfoil. As mentioned, it should be about 10x the potency of the pure theophyline extract from green tea which you're smoking... and yes, smoked methylxanthines are slightly more "trippy" than normally-consumed methylxanthines... and tend to give more of a headache sometimes..."
