Yea I recently heard about Cinevia although I don't have a PS3 my brother does.
I have 12 megabit dsl he only has 1 megabit since he lives out in the woods off a dirt road, So I downloaded bunch of movies on a usb thumbdrive for him
the new Insidious region 5 dvd rip for example
anyhow what was interesting is cinevia uses subaudible audio tones that triggers the cinevia to stop the movie and copyright notice pops up on screen on the ps3.
anyhow get this, the latest Insidious region 5 uses dvd ripped video but line audio for english since the audio is swapped from the original region 5 language to english audio
sometimes even cam audio is used on region 5 dvd rips
anyhow a fucking region 5 dvd rip triggered Cinevia protection on his PS3... I was like WTF?!?
about 20 minutes into Insidious region 5 that I downloaded for him, although it plays fine in VLC on my pc i use hdmi to my TV
never any problems
but on his PS3 Cinevia was triggered on a region 5 shitty audio rip 20 mins and the copyright notice popped up, also was triggered with dvd rip of Battle for LA
anywho he went to bestbuy and bought a cheap hdmi cable and is now using his laptop plugged into his tv via hdmi out instead of his ps3 now for downloads.
but yea that cinevia shit has a hair trigger, even if it's cam audio it will trigger the cinevia protection cause it's listening to a few specific subaudible tones or hell even if they are audible those specific tones set it off.
you can re-encode and adjust the EQ and audio on reencode to get rid of it if you really that into using your ps3 for movies.
but fuck, just get a cheap hdmi cable for your pc or laptop, you can get cheap hdmi cables for 3.99 on newegg atm that fucking work great
